I know that the M2 OEM cover will not fit without modification when running PR Coils. Does anyone know if the turner N55 carbon cover would fit? It seems to leave the coils at least partially exposed.

EDIT: Furthermore, will this cover even bolt up to the M2?

Fwiw I've seen someone running the N55 engine cover. They just needed to remove the foam

This video says it fits, may give you some insight on coil clearance too. Personally, I'd cut up the OEM one than spend $225 on it. Edit, nvm. Just seen the OEM cover is $125 more expensive than that turner one.

The new PR coils have an updated bracket that sits flat so you no longer need to cut your engine cover, as the engine cover can sit over top of the coils now. You might need to remove the foam sound deadener on the inside of the engine cover though which is held in by some retension clips but other than that no more cutting it is fully plug and play.

I've had that Turner cover on order since May and am still waiting on it. I called today and they're suppose to let me know if they can even get it anymore.

It just fits under the engine cover now that's pretty much it. So essentially you won't see the coils after the install.

Oh I forgot to mention some guys on f30 post have the new brackets so you can see their installs. Essentially it installs the same as before except it fits under the engine cover now which is nice.

Okay, for my education, why would I want to run something other than stock coils (such as PR)?

You can run a larger gap in your spark plug and not worry about the spark blowing out. A larger gap is also desirable because it allows for better combustion of the fuel in the combustion chamber.

Here is a quote from twisted tuning regarding spark plug gaps and heat ranges which is really interesting:

Quote:
Just recommending someone go to a one or two step colder plug because of a changed tune is not best practice. Poor combustion and misfires can occur.
The stock heat range in the N55 is fine to 700whp or so. One step colder than N54 stock. And the same heat range as nissan GTR stock plugs. GTRs run the stock heat range to 800whp or so.
The old recommendation of one step colder per 100whp is also not accurate. I mention this because ive seen it spewed on a lot of these groups. By that recommendation people would be looking for 6 step colder plugs in some cars.
Also, which is a slightly different topic (has nothing to do with your post) but people need to stop immediately recommending .018 plug gaps just because a car is tuned.
Ideally you want the largest gap possible for a setup that promotes complete combustion without blowout (failure of the spark to jump the gap).
Long story short.... proper spark plug recommendation should come from reading the plugs for a specific setup. Not a blanket recommendation from something you’ve seen people do.
IE- my A90 supra for instance. I’ve seen some tuners already recommended colder plugs or gapped down plugs for immediate process after tuning. Well, my car... stock plugs, stock gap. At over 700whp and 720wtq and reading the plugs show no issues. And the car has not skipped a beat or misfired at all."

One more thing, here you go Bee pee this is the thread so you don't have to go searching everywhere:

https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1721213

You can see the bracket has the coil packs sitting nearly flat on the intake manifold compared to before where they sat at an almost 90º angle.
