E93 325 fuel consumption
Hi All,
I know this has been discussed on a few different threads but I can't seem to fine the answer to what MPG E93 325 petrol owners are getting. I'm a bit dissapointed with mine as I'm only getting 23.1, this is mainly on single carriageway A, B and unclasified roads. When I do drive on the motorway it goes upto about 28-29mpg. All of these figures are woefully short of what the 'published' figures state. I don't thrash the car and have even turned the 'best gear' indicator back on so I should be driveing what BMW consider the most economical way. What are you guys getting? Regards Keith

Hi Keith
My 325i 'vert is showing an overall average of 23mpg on the computer - I rarely reset it. Majority of my driving is round town or A roads. I get about 285-300 miles out of a tank. Did a run to Kent and back the other week and managed 480 miles out of a tankfull!! Sat on the motorway using cruise ALL the way there at 90 ish. Journey back was approx 50-80 slowing/accelerating due to more traffic. Thats the best I have ever seen the car achive. I agree, combined figures are a LONG way short of BMW's published. |

I get about the same in my 330. Mainly urban / country roads.
The published figures are not "real world". One of the reasons I got the 330 was because the published figures looked so good for a large engined car.

My 325i returns between 24 and 28 mainly town and A roads, when mostly around town down to 24 constant, not good and not thrashed. When driving on egg shells can achieve 30 but no fun driving

Most of my driving is a 6 mile commute across town and back and I'm getting 26-27 mpg average in a 30mph zone with a few stop starts.
We did a trip to Kent a few weeks ago, 200 mile round trip, and this went up to the mid thirties. Mind you I have been watching how I drive and short shifting to try and get the best economy I can. Miopyk |

330i auto that I had averaged 27.7 over 4k mls.....very mixed usage, rarely driving on egg shells....makes the 325 look even worse....

The E93 is a really heavy car with a 6cyl engine.
The official figures are worked out buy cruising at 38mph on a rolling road, this does not take into account the most important thing when it comes to consumption and that is pulling the cars own weight from a standstill. If you are on the I of W, what sort of journeys are you doing?? Is the car doing lots of 10+ mile journeys so it is getting to temperature?? Do you do lots of jourenys where you are sat cruising for 20, 30 40, or 100+ miles on a motorway?? For any start of stop/start driving, and that includes twisty county lanes just as much as in town, a light car is more important than a smaller engine. I can get better consumption round London than I get in Norwich, longer sections betwen lights and junctions in London. So not always what you expect. |

Looking at BMW's figures it seems they are wrong!!!
They have them listed as 330i Urban (mpg) 20.8 (22.1) 325i Urban (mpg) 32.8 (30.4) I would print that out before it is changed and have a word with them. Same engine, no way can the 325i can be 57% more efficient just with a different state of tune?!! |

My 325 does about 23mpg in town and about 30 on the motorway..Shocking really when you compare the official figures. BMW should be providing more accurate figures to their customers..it's disappointing.

Has anyone actually looked at the figures in depth, BMW have them wrong!!!
Across Europe they have the 330i using 10.5L/100km and the 325i as 10.4L/100km so virtually the same for both. BMW UK have them listed as have them listed as 330i Urban (mpg) 20.8 (22.1) 325i Urban (mpg) 32.8 (30.4) There is no way the same weight and engined car can be nearly 60% more efficient due to a detune. |

The E93 325i is showing as 27.2mpg urban on the BMW UK website today, so maybe what you saw is a misprint.
My automatic 325i E93 is averaging 29.4 on the OBC over about 6k miles. I'm getting around 400-420 miles per tank of mixed driving, but with a high proportion of A-road and motorway miles. Nowhere near the official figures but I was expecting 30mpg or thereabouts so not far off.

My 335i E93 can do 34mpg on the motorway, with care. Local stop start but driving gently gives about 23mpg, not so gently but not silly driving soon drops this to 18mpg.
