Great video and thanks for sharing! This will be my first BMW and first new sports car. I went to a dealer last October and test drove a competition. I decided I was buying one but it was October and I was mid home purchase (buying a BMW wouldn't have made my banker very happy) Then 3 days after the test drive the LA auto show happened and they unveiled the CS. Based on the timeline of the delivery and my home purchases plus a garage addition the CS seemed a better option and I really liked the CS over the competition. One big factor was the wheels.. would have needed a set of wheels along with the comp purchase..aside from that I just like the CS more (hood, interior etc.). So I called my SA and put a deposit down on an allocation I was 3rd in line at the time.
I followed the news for a few months on allocations and when it started to appear things weren't changing for me in line position (the SA told me they were only getting one allocation) I tried calling other dealers to see if I could find a better spot in a line etc. I got second in line at an M dealer (they were supposed to get 2) They said they could guarantee me an allocation but wanted a 5k$ non refundable deposit they also needed 5k$ over MSRP (I fought and got signed paperwork stating it was at MSRP). In the end I figured worst case scenario I don't get an allocation and I'll just grab a comp at a discount and get wheels, hood etc etc. I put my second deposit down March 10th (this was an allocation day and they thought cs may be coming through) Then Covid. Between that and having to get a special permit from the town to build my garage everything got delayed and the timing has just worked well aside from now taking delivery in probably December at least the garage will be done. The day allocations came through was the same day they broke ground on my garage and both were about a year in the making. I just love it when a plan comes together! Enjoy your CS everyone, I know I will !!

I wanted something I could share special drives and car shows with the kids in. I wanted something I could throw an extra set of wheels in, drive across the country, do a track day or three, and drive back home in confident in knowing it would handle it well. I wanted something a little "special" that wouldn't catch too much attention on the street or at every gas station but other car nerds would get. I wanted something small, responsive, and quick. I wanted something in blue .

Was planning on adding a BMW in particular 1M to the garage so when a MSRP allocation for M2CS came up at local dealer I took it.

It's the only new car under $100K that I just can't take my eyes off of. It just so happens that the name of this car starts with the same letter of the last car I really loved! ///M

I pulled the trigger on the M2 CS because, in the end, I just found the want was too strong. The heart wants what the heart wants, as they say, and I just couldn't stop thinking about it. I loved the OG M2 when it came out and figured BMW would make an M2 CS and/or M2 CSL at some point, so I started getting on dealer lists before said lists really ever existed. When the M2 CS finally debuted, I did have a couple of objections. First, the price. I was hoping the car would be introduced in the high 70's. But while a bit high, it is what it is and I decided that for a car that moved me emotionally as much as the M2 CS does that I didn't want to let that deter me. And to be honest, I'm not so sure that for what you get the M2 CS is expensive; rather, I think it's more that the M2 Competition is simply an incredible value. Second, while the exhaust sound improved, I still wasn't thrilled with the way it looked or sounded. But there are a few on the market I like very much and I look forward to upgrading soon after I take delivery. Everything else is pure positive and excitement. Styling-wise, the car is beyond stunning. I honestly can't think of a single BMW that I find more aesthetically appealing. I have not driven the car, obviously, but from the now many reviews available, the car's performance sounds to be more than considerable ... all with a proper 6-speed manual transmission and real back seats (if you think they're too small, you don't have the history with 911's I do : ). Finally, the M2 CS represents the end of an era and I expect it will go down in history as the best and most important of its generation. I am certainly excited to take delivery and drive the wheels off of my incoming example!

Why the M2 CS?
I have the new car itch, but not sure if I will actually pull the trigger on anything. Long time BMW person and have owned several M variants over the years including an E90 6 spd, F82, F10 M5 and most recently an F90 M5. My favorite by far was the E90 since I like a more analog feel. While the new models are hugely capable, they are not that engaging. To put it into perspective, I kept my Civic Type R over my F90 because it is way more fun to drive. I am not a traditional JDM guy, but the CTR is just so much fun to drive.
Currently on my radar is the new GT4, 997 GT3 and the new M2CS. My local dealer has a 6 spd CS in stock, but it is not the exact spec I would order. Beggars can't be choosers though so? My question to the group is why the M2CS over the plethora of other options at $100K? GT4 is $115K, GT3 is around $100K and the CS is around $90K. The pricing difference is not insignificant, but also doesn't close anything out either. Appreciate everyones feedback in advance. |

Depends on what you are planning to do. If you've got kids and like to do car things with them, then there's only actually one choice there for you.
If you don't track much I don't see the point of the GT3. Frankly the same issue with the GT4, the CS is more fun and more analog on the street for what little it will give up on the track. I found the GT4 to be boring on the street and the gearing a real issue for back road driving. Plus the road noise made passenger conversation difficult. If you want higher track focus and don't have kids consider the Porsches. If you want more fun daily driving, get the CS. I can also say it is shockingly analog feeling. Vibration in the steering and shifter at idle. Immediacy in every steering movement, extremely direct throttle response. For me it is nearly as analog as my E36.

There are those who buy a car then ride it hard and put it up wet repeatedly until something seems amiss, then sell it. I would not want a car that someone had used that way, even if only tracked a few times. Then there are those who pay attention to everything the car tells them, get under it regularly and correct issues before they become problems. I would like to think I am in that group. I would happily buy a car that spent its whole life on the track if it was carefully tended to that way. Most cars like that (especially GT3's) change hands between people who know each other and know the car from track events.
