BMW X4 M40d - approved used warranty
Hi all,
A little bit of advice please. I am purchasing the above vehicle in the next few days - in London, England. It is exactly 18 months old. My question is this: the dealer is supplying the car with a 12 month approved used warranty (bmw dealer) - is this in addition to the 3 years manufactures warranty - making it 4 years of cover or is it to run in line with the existing manufacturers warranty, meaning at the end of 3 years I will have no warranty cover? Any help appreciated. PJ |

Hi, No it's not on top of. You'll have 3 years total from when the car is new. So you'll have a further 18 months of warranty. At that stage you need to decide on going extended BMW warranty or self insuring or going third party warranty or no warranty at all. Depends on your attitude to risk. There's plenty of discussion points about extended warranty on the forums. I personally go BMW extended warranty and will be in the same position again in approx 12 months time. |

Thanks, totally what I assumed. It was when I spoke to BMW UK this morning they stated that any AUC warranty was in addition to the manufacturers warranty.
Didn't sound right but also wanted to believe it to a point. Yes totally agree with the Allianz BMW extended warranty, had it on my last BMW up until its 10th birthday which was also a plus point for selling on. Wonder how much it will be on for a 'M performance' car. Cheers |

When a CPO BMW is purchased, often there will be an added warranty on top of the standard manufacturers warranty. I would clarify again with BMW and see the terms in writing before I would solicit opinions from this forum.

I took out the BMW UK extended warranty on my previous X3. I found the dealer was flexible about putting through a claim for worn leather which I didn't think would get through. One option with warranty is to go with a high excess to reduce cost and mitigate risk in case something really expensive goes bang. It seems also you get better treatment if the car is dealer serviced....lots permutations to evaluate.

Thanks, certainly something I will ask the dealer as BMW UK (head office think its added after the warranty) - would be great to add the AUC they give for 12 months to kick off once the manufacturers warranty finishes in 18 months.
