Brembo Greentive tungsten carbide coated discs

Probably posted already, but there could be hope for future options that result in less brake dust.

So it's the Porsche Surface Coated Brake for the aftermarket? They're certainly a lot cheaper than carbon ceramics.

Wonder how much these will cost. If I recall correctly the Porsche version had a hefty price

I'm not even sure if it's for aftermarket. I think it might be for oem. Initial focus seems to be for electric cars. I question how well these hold up to more performance oriented brake pads. Can you spec a cayman or 911 in the Porsche version?

I'm also unsure of how much less dust gets gets created and if a different brake pad compound gets used.

Edit:

Quote:
The brake rotors, which the company calls Porsche Surface Coated Brakes (or PSCB), are iron rotors that receive a layer of super-hot tungsten carbide applied to the contact surface at an extremely high rate of speed. The result is a 0.1-millimeter coating of wildly dense material. According to Porsche, the rotors last 30 percent longer than their iron counterparts, despite the thin layer of useful material.

And that's not all. Because so little of the rotor actually wears throughout its service life, PSCBs produce around 90 percent less brake dust, according to Road & Track contributor Jason Fenske. The tungsten carbide coating also allows the rotors to maintain cooler temperatures after repeated hard stops.

If you go on the fact that you can get the parts for 50% off the manufacturer suggested replacement cost, then they would still be around $5k to replace. I think 30% longer life and 90% less brake dust would be worth the price of admission.

The new coating technology can be applicable on the brake ring of all Brembo disc concepts: solid, Lightweight, Dual Cast and two-piece floating discs.

The Porsche option is about half the cost of ceramic and they use a white caliper to denote and promote how well it works. My guess is at some point the environmental concern of brake dust and rubber particles will start to get attention and solutions that reduce or eliminate these contaminants will get legislated. Side benefit is clean wheels!
