added power and clutch question

i'm curious and couldn't find an answer to it - with everyone adding so much more power/torq to the car (JB3, V3, and other mods), how much can our stock clutch take before it goes out? anyone experiencing problems with those added power? new/more heavy duty clutches?

thanks

other than wheels and suspension, i've an otherwise stock car but just wondering. with so many people adding so much power, i'm curious how the clutches are holding up. i dont mean driving like an ass cuz no matter how much power or how lil, if one drives like an a-hole, clutch will go in no time.

The OEM clutch can handle the amount of power these cars put out tuned.

There are going to be people telling you that it doesn't. (A certain person come to mind here..) If they tell you that it can't hold the power, ask them how many miles they have driven the car and how many times they have slipped the clutch due to racing and etc..

Like most "high performance" products, even a high performance clutch with a high torque capacity cannot be expected to last for ages. It just doesn't work that way. True race built engines get rebuilt after each pass, or per season.

The stock unit works fine.

My clutch went out at 15k miles.... I race the car a lot and launch hard with it... I got a multipuck ceramic clutch from UUC and couldn't be happier... daily driving is a bit annoying with the clutch but its worth it when it won't slip at all. 795$ for the clutch kit and I resurfaced the flywheel at a machine shop for 75$

just FYI, on my other car with over 500 RWHP, the Horsepowerfreaks kevlar clutch was usually done after about 10-15k.

Depending on the material of the clutch, the lifespan will change. The stock clutch is an organic disc and thus does not fair well with constant launching and slipping as a feramic, carbon, kevlar clutch would. BUT, the other clutches are a bit more cumbersome to use opposed to organic.

An upgraded pressure plate would be a more ideal upgrade than an upgraded disc. Increasing the clamp load on the stock unit will prolong its life drastically.
