Hi all - M50i owner here.

Only have about 3K miles on the clock but I have a whistling / whooshing / owl hooting type of noise when accelerating at low speeds.

It’s loud enough to hear when in the cabin and with the music on.

I’ve read this could be a turbo boost / vacuum leak issue.

Can G05 owners advise if this type of noise is normal?

I am not sure if this is the same sound as yours but I have a BPV/BOV type woosh upon deceleration or letting off after WOT. It sounds like a muted version of when you blow over the top of a glass coke bottle. Our X7 does not make this sound and has the same motor. Dealer said it is "normal" but I didn't expect them to say anything other than that.

There's definitely a muted but prominent whistling sound on our g05 40i with acceleration from standstill/low speed to 40-50mph. the whistling is prominent as the revs get higher. I think its just the turbo, i kinda like the sound

My July build 2020 had a whistling noise from about 30-50mph they troubleshooted as originating from the drivers side mirror. Not sure if it's the same noise but apparently it's common enough to have a service bulletin about it. They originally thought it was the door seals which wasn't the case.

That is similar to my noise. Happens when I take the foot off the accelerator. Looks like this may well be normal.

Exactly right; it is only when letting off the accelerator in first or second gear from higher RPM. Otherwise I never hear it and it is not audible with music. Dealer told it me was normal despite not being present on our X7 with same motor.

Yes, I've heard similar on my G06, M50i. It's most noticeable when I'm maybe pulling away from a light or stop, romp on it pretty hard and then let off at maybe 25 or 30mph. (Totally take the foot off the accelerator...) It's definitely a turbo "whoosh" type of sound...

I am noticing this sound on my G06 m sport as well.

It sounds like air being compressed during hard acceleration and then a very deliberate WHOOOOSH sound when letting off the throttle or changing gears at WOT. Kind of like a blow off valve on tuner cars.

Sounds pretty cool. At first I thought it may have been a boost leak but it seems many others have it.

I notice some whistling under acceleration but it sounds like the turbo. Ariel Atoms are great for good examples of turbo acceleration and lift-off sounds (around 11min into the video):

I am guessing it is a BPV recirculating boost or a very quiet BOV letting boost out into the atmosphere. It has that type of sound to me and I only hear it letting off the accelerator so that's my guess.
