lehman guys actually have nothing to worry about - barclays (their new owners) gauranteed them at least their 2007 bonus for the next 1-2 years if they stay on... quite a good deal actually given most other people in the market at surviving banks will not get paid that much...

my sister's at lehman... a lot of people were laid off. Only a small percentage of those who stayed (if they were lucky) got the benefits you noted above--that is, so lehman's assets dont completely fail. Also, not all parts of lehman were bought out -- e.g. commercial real estate.
