Hi all,

I have just purchased the Service Inclusive plan for my week old X3 M40d MHEV. With the cost of just an oil service currently around the £340 - £360 mark I figure when mine is due in Nov 2022 that cost will have considerably risen. Fast forward to Nov 2024 how much will the first major service be, maybe £500 - £600?

I figure the outlay of £721.48 for 60 months (5 yrs) now with the 30% off will at least provide peace of mind & be a savvy saving in the long term. Happy motoring 👍

Mine is showing at £849.59 as well.

As my car is 14 months old and has just had its first service, I won't be buying it.

On the website it says:
Package validity:
The Service Inclusive validity period (duration and mileage) begins with the date of the first registration of the vehicle and ends with the expiry date or mileage, whichever comes first.

This means in the 3 year 10month period, it will be covering 2/3 services.

I usually get my car serviced at my local Indy who are a BMW specialist and charge 1/3 of the price of BMW...

I'm yet to have my first service. £721.48 for 5 years sounds attractive and mine is showing that price.

I intend keeping my X3 for at least 5 years...it'll be low mileage, I can't just justify changing it before 5 or 7 years. I will use BMW to service the car as in the past when I've had a problem this has helped a lot. Is there any reason not to purchase this package in my situation?

I think at £721.48 and you get 5 years that is a good price. I'd do that.

But for me, with less time, one less service and £130 more, doesn't work out a good deal.

Why is a week old M40d coming in at £721 and my week old 2.0d is coming in at £849 for the same plan?!

Maybe an extra oil service? Is the M40d on a 2 year first oil change and the 20d on a 1 year?

I haven’t much idea what 5 years of servicing would cost....does someone know the figures?

iDrive for my 2019 car shows

Oil service 2021
Brake fluid 2022
Vehicle inspection (mot - not included) 2022
Vehicle check 2023

Is that it then another oil service at 2025? Which wouldn’t be covered as it’s 6 years.

I've called my local BMW dealer re the current costs for the three services:
Oil service
Brake fluid
Vehicle check/major service

Paid for piecemeal it's £1,122.

£721 looks like a good deal!

Jesus - I got lucky a couple of years back getting for 4yrs/60k@499. Having said that the previous car 4yrs prior was 399.

It saddens me the cost of service, especially when you look at the checklist and see how little they actually do other than check this, check that. I think I'm getting old because everything these days seems to be taking the piss.

...it's why indies look attractive but this BMW deal looks ok in the context of high prices. These costs are without pads and rotors....brakes get expensive.

And will the Oil Service be a standard Oil Service or Oil Service with Microfilter? There is a difference of £100 between these two services!

I too am sitting on the fence with this at present, trying to work out the costs using the BMW Service online prices. I just don't know whether the first Oil Service will include the filter?

I think it's one of each, when I spoke with the dealer they said minor and major oil change services plus brake fluid service costing in total £1,122.

Edit - I see what you mean:

What drives the need for the £603 service? Is it just mileage or is at 4 or 5 years no matter what mileage?

I'm getting the impression it's 60,000 miles when the spark plugs need replacing - this may drive the need for the expensive service. I need to check again with the dealer.

I'm getting the feeling that at 5 years and 45k miles I won't need the £603 service.

Yes, that's exactly what I have concluded. My x3 is a year old, which implies I would get 4yrs worth of servicing and if my calculations are correct, that would equate to either less than the £700 they are asking for, or around that sort of figure. Therefore for me it's not going to be worth it.

Unless it includes real wear and tear items like brakes, wipers, etc., and real warranty work for just a year, IMHO only OCD folks should pop for something you can get easily get done on the outside for much less.

Does anyone know at what point, with respect to the condition based service indicator, you can get the service done?

I ask because mine is at 2000miles now, and want to force the service at a lower mileage - the reason being to prevent the next service being due at 48000 (say) which would then put the service after that at 65000 (ish) and I've lost the last service in the pack (which happens to be the biggest). So I had one at around 15000, currently done 29000 and it's showing 2000 to go. If I can make the next service around 45000 I can try to rag the ass off of it to make the following interval ~15000 so I can squeeze in one near 60000. Jesus, Martin Lewis would be proud ...

Usually they won't service it until the indicator says it needs servicing.

Of course unless you want to pay for it yourself?

TBH I won't take my car to BMW to be serviced. It never seems to affect the trade in price, everything is online anyway and as long as your Indy can upload the service records to the BWM system its usually a fraction of the price and done better.

My local Indy does Audi and BMW. 2 guys, one used to work for BMW and one worked for Audi. They update all of the records online and on the computers and actually pride themselves in their work. Also, they don't valet your car which is a massive positive to me.

I just had my first service after 2 years and nearly 6000 miles, royally ripped off for a bit of oil and a microfilter of course but thats what you get when you buy a BMW unfortunately.

I did throw them a little, I reset the service warning as it was annoying me bonging every time I got in the car and Im OCD and cant be doing with warning lights on the dash. The service manager said it didnt need a service so they obviously hadnt stuck it on the diagnostics, I told them to just do it and no need to do another reset, bless em..
