F33 Convertible - Code roof open/close?
Purchased a 67 Plate 430d convertible yesterday, huge difference from my previous 320d.
The car has comfort access (key fob rolls windows up/down) however it doesn't put the roof down, is this something that can be changed in the likes of Bimmercode? Thanks |

That's odd the roof doesn't go down if you hold unlock button.
The older e93 used to. The only thing that would prevent it doing so was if the luggage guard/cover thing in the boot wasn't pulled down into position to allow space for the roof to retract into the boot. Can't recall if the roof closed if you held the lock button....seem to think it didn't and it wasn't a coding thing either, you needed electrical modifications in terms of a relay. I may be wrong. |

It appears I lied, the windows will go down, but not back up like they did on my F30. The luggage guard is down so, the roof can be put down manually without issue :-)

I've a F33 with comfort access and can confirm that holding the buttons beyond window operation the roof will operate, make sure you hold the button till roof operation is complete. I have subsequently fitted a SmartTop module which automates the roof operation so that you don't have to hold the buttons.

Another F33 owner here with comfort access who can confirm that the roof will both open & close using the key - neither function existed on my previous E92. Admittedly the key needs to be pointed at the roof or at least the back of the car, where I guess the receiver / aerial is located.
Greatbm where did you get the SmartTop module from? Not holding the button down seems like an improvement on what I have now. |

Have a look at the detail the module is plug and play takes 5 mins to install, settings can be done by laptop or in car. Firmware can be updated when a new release is issued. https://www.mods4cars.com/sms/db/sma...vZ2xlLmNvbS8=&

Thanks greatbm for the link, I've seen a company on the South coast offering this, never realised that it was a DIY fit. Looks like an investment worth considering, saves having to hold the roof up /down button when driving [important when it's raining] likewise and the key when trying to find the sweet spot for the key to roof interaction - it can be quite annoying when the roof stops opening when using the key. The only draw back for me is that sometimes, when the packing for a holiday, I take the roof off partially so that I can full access the boot space.
Is it worth £300 though, for what is basically a latching relay. Might put the money towards getting Android Auto in the car using the Bimmertech Prime MMI thingy. Decisions decisions.. |

£300 for a Smarttop might sound expensive but they are sought after in the second hand market.
Had one on my old Boxster and sold it when I got a new one, got almost as much on Ebay as I paid for it. |

If the car is under warranty and the device is plug and play it means it can be removed easily before any possible warranty claims.
So if you have a problem with the roof at some point the dealer cant say, 'Oh it's because you had that thing fitted!' |

I ended up buying Bimmercode and got a bluetooth ODB connector to take a look.
Did try enabling a few things but they didn't seem to work (mirrors folder automatically etc), going to book it into a local specialist in Liverpool and see if they can check. Thankfully bimmercode takes a backup on initial load so could undo the changes I had made :-) |

Are you sure it's got comfort access? Mine hasn't and it won't take the roof down/up.
