Window Regulator or Window Power Motor?

Hey everyone!

Happy belated Thanksgiving!
My driver side rear window isn't responding at all to the window switch from the driver door. I can't hear any humming noise or attempt to put the window up or down. I am not sure if it happened suddenly or progressively since my mom was borrowing my car for a few weeks. Window is also loose and I can bring it up or down with my hands.

Am I looking at a regulator replacement or a motor replacement? Or both?
I heard 99% of window problems are fixed with the regulator replacement. The string could have jacked up the motor which is why I am not hearing any humming noise when I attempt to roll the window up or down.

Regulator is about $20-$25 on eBay
Motor starting at $100 for used and up to $230 for new.

Thanks in advance,
Anthony.

Take out the interior door card and take a look for yourself. It's not rocket science.

My door clips will 100% break when I take out the interior trim. I'm trying to do this once, and I am trying to not have to keep the door half disassembled for a week, that's all. It would be easier if someone had the same problem so I know what to order.

If your window is loose, the regulator is bad. The fuse very well could have blown also because of the window not moving correctly.

Go to Harbor Freight and get the set of plastic trim removal tools to aid in removing the door panel. They are about $10. I didn't break any clips.

See my post- in the search box - Pass rear window will not close

I've had 3 of my doors apart for regulators and have broken one clip.. It's a common enough fail item it seems like.

If your window feels loose be careful as it may drop to the bottom of your door. It's likely only being held up by the rubber seals on either side.

I do have the plastic trim removal tools, but the clips on the driver door still got broken when I was replacing the door lock actuator. I am very careful but I think they were just too brittle from the heat.

I will definitely order a regulator then. Will test the motor separately along with the fuse. Thanks for your help.

You're right! It's being held by the rubber seals on both sides. I have some tape for the time being.

I will replace the regulator in that case, and test the motor + fuse separately.

Do you recommend OEM regulators ($100)? Or eBay ones for $20?

I recommend cheap Chinese ones off eBay or Amazon as the expensive German made ones are junk and failed already. Why replace stuff that breaks with expensive stuff that breaks.
