G8 or civic si?

I am going to be purchsing another car so that my M can sit in the garage and collect dust.
I drove a g8 the other day and its a pretty fast car, pretty nice interior and not badly priced either . however its a pontiac.

I am also considering getting a civic si. its a honda, my son will be driving in two years can hond it off to him.
however, its ..well .. kinda slow/.

which woulud you get and why or why not.

I can't see how either car is comparable, but out of the 2 choices, and considering your son will be driving it. Go for the Honda, better insurance rate on a child and a lot easier to maneuver.

Have you considered a 128i, it would cost a little bit more then a SI, but closer to the G8.
With having a few bmw's in the family already, you should be in good with the dealers.

Both of these cars are entirely different. The Pontiac is more grown up, larger, smoother, more powerful. The Honda is smaller, cheaper, better gas mileage, etc. Since your son may end up driving this car, I would certainly go Honda.

civic probably makes more sense, begin I can turn it over to my son in two years, the G8 I wouldnt. its a nice car though.
also not considering the 128i, because I am getting a 135i, too. jsut not sure when.

You would be foolish to turn down a G8 GT to get a Honda Civic Si... I can assure you though the fit and finish (who cares when you have that much power) will be better on the Civic in the long term but the Civic when driven normal still will only get 20-21mpg city at best. And it is as slow as death...

G8 GT: $26,000 ish

HP/TQ: 361/385

MPG: 18 combined

Braking: 124ft

Slalom: 64.3mph

Skid pad: 0.85g

Civic Si: $21,000

HP/TQ: 197/139

MPG: I know personally from a friend that owns one, if you drive it like a regular civic you will see about 21mpg city, if you drive it like an SI (all power is from 5,000rpm+ you will see about 19mpg city

Braking: 125ft

Slalom: 68.6mph

Skid pad: 0.87g

Personally I do not think you should base your purchase on what car would best fit your son once you are ready to hand it off to him. IMO it is a no brainer G8 GT.

Here is what you get, and what you pay for...

+164hp/246tq on the Civic Si

-mpg 2-4mpg down on the Civic Si

That is a great exchange I think. But plenty of tree hugging economical nerds will suggest that you go with the Civic Si. But those are the guys that will arrive at death with an amazing portfolio. Me personally I would rather slide into death sideways with sweat on my forehead, a grin on my face saying DAYUM what a ride! G8 GT for the win.

It may have a Pontiac badge on the car in the U.S but its a HOLDEN Commodore. Australian made and developed vehicle. Decent bang for your buck performance and from what i have been hearing from the Holden forums they also are quite reliable. As a daily this car would be my pick

I guess another thought, is that The damn G8 Gt is "almost" as fast day day driving as the M3.... it handles really well and even sounds great.

Will I still want to pull out the M3????

What you can't write down in numbers and stats is driving experience. That's what brings people to BMW in the first place. I have a 328. I've driven much faster cars, but nothing puts a smile on my face like this car does. The handling is really second to none, and makes you feel like you're driving a race car.

So in short, yes you will still want to drive the M3.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. You're giving incorrect info.

1 series is $36k, around $39k with decent options.

G8 GT is $30k, around $33k with decent options.

Civic SI is $22k, around $23.5k with decent options.

The thing is the G8 isn't in that class of vehicle; It's in the Accord or 5 series classes. A G6 is similar vehicle. I think the G8 Is an awesome car for the price, I must say.

Why not get an Mkv GTI

. Reasonably priced, moddable if your son cares too, overall very nice car. Im sure the new ones coming out will drop prices of the current model as well.

Si for commuter and for the son. G8 is too much power for an teenager unless he's atypical but you know your son best. In a Si he will probably live through a crash but the G8 will get him into lethal speed way too fast.

Two completely different type of sports car. Si is all about being smooth and carry the momentum. G8 is brute.
