BMW i4 launch is on track says BMW

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
News on the i4 has been few and far between so far, at least on this forum.

Here's one: https://www.linkedin.com/posts/bmw-g...464355328-x8yT

I wonder what 'on track' means though... within 2021?

That would be my guess. I'm anxious to see some real world range numbers and also see what 85% of the prototype made it to production and the 15% that didn't.

When the concept was revealed BMW's FB account replied to many people saying an estimate of either Q1 or Q2 of 2022 for arrival at dealers.

Yes, deliveries will begin in 2HCY21 in Europe, according to my sales rep.

I really hope they execute well on this. What I don't like is that it wasn't built as an electric car from the ground up. Why in the world did BMW try to use an ICE chassis for their launch into the segment? Stubborn? So short sighted. Huge mistake that set them back years, and they admitted as much several months back.

I'm really excited to see the i4. If they meet all of their goals it might just be my next car... despite the silly grill.

I was excited for this until the grilles and more gran coupe nonsense. The market needs a proper electric executive coupe

I agree that non-from-the-ground-up is a disappointment, but it probably helped control costs and schedule, which should be good for the cost-conscious buyer

Interested to see how this car plays out, hope it is closer to 40k than 100k

Since the 4 series is a redesign from the previous (longer, wider, etc) perhaps the 4 series was designed for both ICE and EV.

I believe the i4 is supposed to be more upscale vs entry level. I don't see how a reasonably optioned one will be under $70k, which is in line with a nice 440. It will cost more than the equivalent ICE 440.

BMW is against the idea of dedicated BEV platforms (which have proven to be more beneficial) and instead have decided to make an ICE platform that can accommodate EV's and PHEV and their production process so they can all be on one assembly line. Most likely a cheaper move.

The iX can be preordered from Monday so I expect the i4 to follow. I thought the i4 was being released before the iX.

Why on Earth would someone pre-order the ix?

Good, looks like they finally came to their senses about dedicated EV platforms. I assume we won't see it until the next generation of cars, as the i4, i7 and iX1 which have been spied already likely share a platform with their ICE counterparts.

I don't think they were ever against a dedicated platform - instead it was more of how can they control costs and balance both electric and ICE production today. Eventually everyone is going to go electric so whatever was previously said by BMW should not be taken literally.

With that said, I'm excited to see what the final product brings - the i4 is something I will be seriously considering to either replace the F36 or have in alongside it.
