How to get the new leather smell back?
I noticed there's almost no leather smell on my car now (black vernasca leather). I know it wasn't very strong when new, but now there's nothing.
Strangely a friend's X3 with exactly same interior, and similar age/mileage has a much stronger leather smell. On an older car I tried Zaino Z10 that's supposed to restore leather smell, but the smell was a bit 'fake'. Separately, recently climbed into another friend's new Volvo XC60 and it smelled deliciously like an expensive new leather suite.....

Here's another vote for Zano. Also an extra tip......after you condition the leather seats with the Zano take the cloth you used to rub the seats, fold it and place it under the drivers seat.....gives the entire interior that new car leather smell for weeks!

No scent in air registers, no smoking, no food. No shampoo on carpets, nor any chemicals to clean the dash, etc. Usually for the leather I use just warm water, maybe a little face soap (like Dove) and then wipe it off. I've tried Zaino and Lexol before and didn't really like the after smell. Also I think Lexol left the leather shiny, not matte. I might try the Chem Guys cheers

Chemicals are not needed to clean the seats and trim, unless obviously stained or soiled with tar, wax, or large quantity of grease.
I use a microfiber towel damp with water to clean the seats and hard trim. That’s all. Cleaning products are as much placebos as anything else. They have a nice color and aroma, to give the user an illusion of “working”. Use water only, unless in the very rare instance of major incident that requires a solvent other than water. Water is a strong solvent, not everyone knows this. |
