It's definitely a Porsche, no denying that.
Can't say I hate it. And although not as nice as the Aston Martin Rapide... it's tons better then the Lamborghini sedan.

Nothing.

Cayman's regularly keep up with stock Carrera's on the track. Just check out Caymanclub.net for some proof. It's a perfectly balanced car, but a lot of 911 snobs don't consider the Cayman a "real" Porsche.

Will admit, it's a good machine. But Porsche has got to stop positioning cars for the mum's and dad's of the world to make up margin. It's pathetic. Sell-out if you ask me. I'm a diehard Porsche fan... big time, but this latest makes me sick.
Sell out because it's $15,000 less than the Carrera yet matches it in track performance?

The Cayman S also has almost as much HP as a 335i, but weighs 500-600 pounds less. How is it underpowered?

From a corporate view, the Cayman is a product failure, unfortunately. And you can thank Porsche for that... They continue to add "fat" and "slop" to the base 997. This latest incarnation is an insult.
I'm not a big fan of the 997 *ducks to avoid 997 fanboys*, but I am a big fan of the Cayman. I actually agree with you, the mid-engined Cayman should be the top dog when it comes to Porsche's lineup. It handles better, has the potential to blow by cars twice its price (as proven when TechArt tuned the engine to 380HP), but to call it a flop is pretty premature.

The Cayman S is the third highest selling car of the Porsche lineup behind the Cayenne, and the Carrera Carbriolet (as of June 2007).

But then again, you wouldn't have the GT3... which in my opinion is the best car on the planet regardless if it is not the fastest on the planet. The Cayman was unfortunately positioned incorrectly.
True true.

But the Cayman S for 2010 might be Porsche's way of correcting this, so it at least shows that Porsche is interested in improving the platform.

From MotorTrend November 2008, the Cayman S for 2010 is going to have PDK, LSD, and DFI. Also the HP will be bumped to 325HP which would put it on the same level as a stock Carrera. Also there will be some slight exterior changes (the front looks like it's taking some inspiration from the GT3 body kit).

So it's definitely something to look out for. I am tempted to buy one next year.

The first still shot of the unmasked car finished in red actually look lovely from that view angle. Though from all of the other view it's an ugly brute.
