Question BMW F11 525d - Rod Bearing Failure?

Hi

I own a 2014 525D and my N47D20D engine just started making a ticking/tapping noise at 237.000km (150.000 miles). I am concerned that the noise is caused by a bad rod bearing. Does any of you have any experience with rod bearings going bad on these engines? Currently mentally preparing myself to get the engine removed and do an overhaul on it. Anything you would recommend me doing before taking this step? ISTA is showing no codes and the engine still performs well. I plan to remove the oil pan in the coming days, to check for debris.

The sound can be heard in this Youtube video:

Cheers

Hard to tell, but it does sound more to be a top end tapping. Possibly a hydraulic valve adjuster?

Have you had the acoustic engine cover off, to see is it easier to sense where it is coming from?

Yes, It is indeed hard to tell. I had the covers off yesterday, but did not manage to isolate where the noise is coming from, yet.

I would bet on a timing chain. If it is the case you should get it replaced asap
