Question Does anybody else think this trend is weird?

To me this styling trend looks really odd and cheap. The Mazda looks allright, but the Chrysler and the new Chevy Cruze look odd to me. What do you think?

I don't like that detail on any of them. But my vote for the least attractive new design is anything Acura TL

It's called a cheater panel. All cars have them in the A-pillar region, but only certain cars have them in the C-pillar region. This is mainly applied to cars that are budget-oriented with sharp kinks. Can't blame the designers. Blame the people controlling the budgets.

Perhaps I wasn't clear. I wasn't assigning blame. I was expressing an opinion on a detail. Which is what I thought the thread was about. Budget driven ugly is still ugly. No one asked why it was unattractive. The question was what do you think.

lol my post wasn't directed towards yours, but yeah I get your point.

and I don't really care about it because I know it's a step manufacturers have to take to keep costs down. it's ugly but there's not much to do about it.
