Question to those with Sapphire Black Metallic...

I'm considering replacing my Arctic Grey 2019 50i with a 2021 Black Sapphire M50i. In some photos - both official press and non-press - black sapphire seems to look sometimes carbon black-ish in certain light. That is to say, when light is reflecting off the paint.

I haven't really seen this on BMW's that are painted in Jet Black or other shades of black. Am I seeing things here or does Black Sapphire actually have a sort of "personality" to its color? Does it sometimes reflect off as something other than "dark black?"

I'm fond of the shadowline trim on my current X7, but thought that Black Sapphire with shadowline would be channeling my inner "batmobile" a little too much. But, if Sapphire Black can be a little bit of a chameleon, then it might make the shadowline trim a bit more palatable to me.

Thoughts? Am I seeing things in photos that aren't there? Thanks in advance folks...

Black sapphire has a very very subtle deep smoky Grey hue to it only in certain sunny/reflective lighting, otherwise its a nice black color in almost all other lighting. Here is a pic of my X5 that helps capture a little of the subtle grey hue off the rear fender. It's very hard to capture this in photos. Personally I think black sapphire is the best color especially w shadowline and extended shadowline. Hope this helps.

Color is such a personal choice that you really should go visit the dealer, they may not have a black sapphire with shadowline, but you would at least get the feel for the color.

My first X5 was sapphire (2012) and while I enjoyed the metallic flake much more then a jet black, I also have never ordered it again. Last X5 was mineral white which the wife loved. My X7 is now carbon black and frankly I'm in love with the combo of carbon black / shadowline / tartufo. Like I said its a pretty personal choice.

I said I would never get into another black based on the swirling after 3-4 years with my sapphire, but here I am

Nope. Black Sapphire is metallic black. It isn’t even close to Carbon Black which is blue. Owned both back to back. Black Sapphire is proper black in every light.

When I picked up my Carbon Black X7, there was a Black Sapphire X7 next to it. Very different colors, so you should see them in person before ordering. I'm biased, but Carbon Black is a fantastic color; it looks very dark in low light, but in full sun, you get violet-blue hues.

I had my order in for my X7 in Black sapphire because the carbon black was too purple on the website and I couldn't fathom anyone wanting that color. When I went to dealer to order, I saw the carbon black and sapphire black in person and fell In love with the carbon black. I love the deep navy still!

The point is, go see them, these colors don't translate well In pictures or on the web, you really need to see them.

I don't see any resemblance to carbon black either in the light or in the dark
