Rubber mats [Solved]

Turns out I had the RWD version.

I live in a climate where you’re an idiot if you don’t put rubber/all-weather mats in your car, so let’s just get that out of the way .

My original rubber mats are as old as the car, and thanks to BMW’s decision to use velcro rather than a retaining hook to keep the mats in place, they no longer stay put. So, when I saw a deal on genuine replacement mats at the dealership I jumped on them.

The problem is the driver side mat doesn’t f*cking fit. I’m having a hard time understanding this, because they are definitely the right part. I also checked the back of the mats: same conclusion. They’re stamped to fit E90/91/92/93... The biggest head-scratcher is that they moved the position of the velcro pads, so now the one side barrrrely overlaps with the pad that’s anchored into the floor. Wtf.

Can someone help me understand this? Do LCI cars not have the little bump in the floor next to the transmission tunnel that the smaller (original) mats were designed to avoid? (That’s why they’re narrower closer to the seat.) Should I just detach the velcro anchor and screw it into my floor further to the right, so it aligns with the mat’s pad?

Any input is appreciated.

wtf brand mats are those? Luckily, the previous owner brought two sets of BMW all-weather floor mats.

He brought a pair of theses https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...RoC4C0QAvD_BwE and a pair of theses
https://www.amazon.com/BMW-514723110.../dp/B00D8KJ8AM

The first pair doesn't fit on the driver's side because the hook holes are way off. So, those are a waste.

Sorry—shoulda been more clear.

These are genuine BMW mats. This is what you get if you ask the dealership for rubber floor mats. To my knowledge, your only other option is the all-weather ones which are more akin to Weathertech (very high edges to keep water in).

I’ve laid the two on top of each other to show how the design changed from the original rubber mats to the latest part number.

As far as I can tell, the mats you linked from FCP aren’t for E90’s...

Here’s a pic of the p/n on new mats.

The fronts are different for RWD/x-drive cars as the trans tunnel is different.

Thank you. This makes sense...

I was scouring google Images and saw different variants and was wondering what the heck the difference was!

From what I remember from years past when this was an issue. It might be that you have RWD mats vs X-Drive mats.

A bit off topic, but something to consider:

I run Weathertech floormats in the winter, and nice BMW carpeted floor mats during the summer.

The Weathertechs fit perfectly, and keep water, salt, and dirt off the surrounding carpeted flooring. Much better than flat rubber mats, IMHO.

Cheers!

I got a whore of a deal on these (~$45 USD) but I’ll definitely keep Weathertech in mind for future. BMW’s all-weather mats also look nice.

Anyone who pays for BMW Genuine floor mats is an idiot/sucker.

My friend had those in her E90, so when I bought mine I just got Weathertech. I mean the quality/thickness of the Weathertech mats isn't the same, but at least they are useful in keeping the slush and containing everything on the mat, which the BMW ones don't do.

LOL maybe so, but considering what I’ve paid for every set I’ve bought, I think I’ve come out ahead

Edit: I actually saved $25 by getting BMW mats. I guess that makes me neither an idiot nor a sucker

But there’s a difference between the rubber mats and all-weather mats. BMW also make all-weather mats, but I just wanted the rubber ones and they’ve always done the trick for me.
