G37 Sedan > G37 Coupe??

I heard a while back (and it was only common sense to know) that the 2009 G sedan would become the G37 sedan.

The 2008 G35 sedan weighs 136 lbs lighter than the 2008 G37 Coupe.

I read the weight increase of the coupe is mostly from structural reinforcements.
I'm sure the 3.7 liter is a BIT heavier than the 3.5 liter (but I'd bet that's 10-20 lbs at most).

So does that mean the 2009 Infiniti G37 sedan will still be 100 or so pounds LIGHTER than the G37 Coupe?

If that's the case, the G37 Sedan would be slightly faster than the coupe.
It's only got 2 hp less (sedan rated at 328 vs. the coupe's 330) I'm sure due to the exhaust and not having as open and true dual exhausts as the coupe.

But with 100-110 lbs lighter weight would mean it's still got a better power to weight ratio.

If that's the case, the G37 sedan should accelerate equally with the stock 335i now.

The automatic should, but the 6mt will still be a tad slower.

g37 sedan with the 7 speed auto is already claiming 13.5 in the 1/4

It will give the 335 a run for its money. .

The G35s posts identical acceleration numbers in comparison with the G37s. That means this thing should be hitting the 60 mark in the 5.0-5.1s range. Currently they're both doing about 5.1-5.3.

i'd say a 100lbs difference would make it up to the driver

Yeah, looks like the sedan is going to be the lighter (though slightly) and faster of the two G37's.
With a 0-60 time of 5.0 seconds flat and a 1/4 mile time of
13.5 @ 105.3 mph that's right on par with a stock 335i (though the 335i gets to 60 in 4.8 seconds that's mostly due to the extra torque at launch I'm sure).
The 335i seems to hold most of that .2 second advantage as it crosses the 1/4 mile line in 13.3-13.4 seconds, but with the G37's 105.3 mph trap speed, that's dead equal with a 335i's so it seems that engine pulls equally as hard as speeds get near and into the triple digits.

Would make for a pretty dead even rolling run race between the G37's and the 335i now.

But of course, they have no 100 hp gain from a piggyback though.

The new 370Z is going to be fast.
Probably 10-12 hp more than the G37's and 200-250 lbs lighter.
That MIGHT be enough to give it a 12.9 1/4 time (at least a 13.0-13.1) at 108-109 mph.
If it's $35K for that price, the 135i sales will suffer.

Yeah seriously. I wouldn't care for a 135i if I had a 370z.

It's nice to see the positive discussion on here about Infiniti! I have to say that I agree with pretty much everything that's been said so far. IMO, the G35S is a tad slower than the the G37S coupe - but I am comparing 6MT in my G37 with the 5-speed auto in the G35S. With the VQ37VHR and the 7 speed auto, sadly the G37 sedan will be faster.

As for against the 335i I have to agree as well, I imagine it would be a driver's race with the 335i taking the edge to 60 and the G37 sedan catching up by 100. My buddy has a e90 335xi and my G37 is equal from a roll, where the AWD brings the weight more in line. Obviously with the torque/traction difference, he keeps his lead when we go from a dig.

But putting raw speed aside, I am excited to try out that 7 speed auto and see how well it fits the VQ's character. With the torque deficiency of the VQ, it should suit the engine much better than the lousy 5AT.

Other than that, I have to agree with the posters above about the 370Z as well. If they are able to keep ~200 lb weight loss while tuning another 5-10 hp out of the VQ37, that car will rock. Previously, the 350Z only had a 5-8 horsepower advantage over a MT G35 coupe, so I would be very surprised to see anything more than 340 hp.

In the UK the saloon is heavier than the coupe by 10KG (22lbs). Maybe spec differences could change this Stateside.

Why not? The current sedan does it in about 5.2-5.5s (varies widely based on multiple reviews).

Closer gearing ratios + extra power = completely plausible acceleration times.
