UPDATE - PICS- E92 Hit from back @ yorkdale - 2 small dents in the back

Hey Guys,

I left my car for the first time at yorkdale and when I came back I noticed that it got hit from behind. There are two small dents with some paint gone right near the exhaust. Any shop suggestions?

Rob.

Try Tony's Touch Up - (416) 473-7229.

He's fixed my bumper a couple of times.

European is the one Parkview uses if I remember correctly, so their work should be fair.

Friend used Tony's touch up and the touch up he got was terrible.

This is going against my anal nature as a detailer, but I'd touch that up as best I could and leave it alone. To repair it is going to require a new bumper at worst, or at best sanding down the bumper, adding a little filler, sanding, then re-spraying. Either way it's going to be a $400+ repair. A blend may be less expensive, but not much, and I don't think it will look a lot better.

Make sure the white areas aren't paint transfer. If they are, scratchx will remove them. If not, get some touch up and carefully fill them in then call it a day. If you do decide to go that route and need any tips shoot me a pm.

I went for a quote this morning and they told me $750 for everything. The guy said to leave it until something else happens cause you cant really see it. I think that is what I'm going to do.

After touch up and hairdryer

Much better - you did a nice job on the touch up. For $750 you might as well get the mtech rear

The mtech bumper is a full bumper, not just a diffuser (iirc). I am not sure exactly what the part cost is, probably just north of $1000.

quick question: since the bumper is plastic, i'm sure that it can be heated to a certain temperature and then have the bump pressed out. I know the hair dryer may have helped, but what if i put a little more heat on it, ie. a torch from the back? or something as hot will it help or damage it even more.

It's hard to say. A heat gun might help, but I wouldn't take an open flame to it. I think the main concern would be taking the paint off. Plastic won't absorb as much heat as metal, so the paint will start to absorb the heat and may come off; same concept when I buff plastic panels.

well i'd probably try to pop it from behind...not sure what to use to pop it either, maybe the back of a screw driver. I wonder at what temperature the paint will flake on the other side.

I don't know. I've seen paint ripped off bumpers by rotaries, but usually when the paint gets too hot too touch (it almost melts off). I wouldn't want to test it though.
