Custom Order Timeline

Will people find a crowdsourced tracker of build times for our custom orders? I see quite a few threads with people talking about build times, but I wonder if it makes sense to get that on one page. Perhaps there isn't a ton of variability:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...it?usp=sharing

My guess is there won't be a ton of variability, BMW has got to have their production schedules down to a science, but maybe there is variability by model - I put in ability to select different models.

I'll leave it to the mods to see if this should be moved to a more general location.

There are too many ordering and tracking threads prolific threads in the G05 subforum. Currently there is variability due to:

- COVID
- Semiconductor shortages
- What time of year you're ordering
- Where you're ordering from (international market orders take longer + shipping)
- If your dealer you're ordering from has a production slot
- What options you order (adding full Merino extends your wait time)
- Order 490 Individual paint adds even more wait time
- When your order gets in the order production queue among all of the global X7 orders
- If you've requested Performance Center Delivery (PCD) will add to the delivery time

Once you're in production it doesn't take longer than 1.5 days from paint > production > QC

While I admire the idea, there's a lot of variability unless you limit to USA markets. Also the are a lot less X7 on lots and less production slots pre-COVID. Might make more sense for G05 as G07 community is smaller.

Also forum members being forum members are going to post repetitive questions on production, delivery.

Thanks for the input and pointers. I did see a lot of threads on it, but no one that actually pulled out the info into a single spot, and allows for filtering and trending analysis. I did narrow the tracker to just production start to production complete, to eliminate regional differences, and included an individual tag to further filter individual / non-individual orders. However, if the actual production start to finish is not very variable (your 1.5 days), then this may not be a worthwhile exercise.

FWIW, my X7 entered production 2/25, and they estimate production being complete 3/11, so about an estimated 2 week production timeline.

USA production on average for E53 to E70 to F15 averaged 4-6 weeks. With new G05 and G07, model demand was explosive which extended to 6-8 for the new models then add 2-3+ weeks for PCD.

Production has been faster by 1-2 weeks. There's still demand but to give you an idea of how the pandemic has affected BMW light truck production:

New Vehicle Sales Q4 2020 X7:

Q4 2019 - 7,834 vehicles
Q4 2020 - 7,044 vehicles
Difference of - 10.1%

YTD2019 - 21,574 vehicles
YTD2020 - 20,579 vehicles
Difference of - 4.6%

X3 contributed to the majority of BMW light truck sales at Q4 2020 - 15.5% but saw a depression of -14.9% YTD2020

Overall BMW light trucks was down - 8.8%

Less demand = faster production, but time will only tell how long this will last.

Having toured the factory 3 times - it's very efficient. Running on two shifts, production associates work 8-10 hours on a 5 day work week. Holidays, a third shift is added and 6 days. They can output more 1500 SAVs a day.

They can go from painted body to QC in a couple of hours. When I was there last in Dec 2019, unpainted bodies were backed up on the production line waiting to get painted - time to paint is around 30min (can't recall) which is the slowest portion of production LOL.

I commend your initiative on attempting to crowdsourcing production info. Sourcing data will be slow given G07 being a new model.

Bimmerpost forum traffic and member contribution is very transient - lots of new members dropping in to find pricing and "shop" best deals and out they go which is unfortunate - it feels like Bimmerpost is another Edmunds car forums for leasing and purchasing. Personally not a big fan of that since the community is full of knowledgeable and experienced of Bimmer enthusiasts.

Apologies for the rant!

Nah, I liked the rant. On a future car I’ll do the PCD or better yet European delivery, and get a factory tour myself!

Highly recommend PCD delivery experience at least once. Unfortunately BMW International ended European delivery for North America last year due to changing BMWNA consumer preference towards X vehicles and declining interest in the EU DP:

"Although BMW NA has historically represented an average of 2,000 European Deliveries annually, such deliveries have declined in recent years to under 500. Based on these trends and long-term evaluation, BMW Group will end the European Delivery Program in 2020 and cease accepting reservations as of May 18, 2020."

https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...5odZQV3RIm4LYk

Good news is you take delivery of any BMW model currently in production at the BMW Performance Center (Ineligible vehicles include CPO, BMWs sold off the dealer lot, MINI and Rolls-Royce):

Is quoted production date in the sheet, the conf production date which dealer provided when ordered?

I put the conf production date that the dealer put. Although note that it is year/month/WEEK OF YEAR. So mine said 2021/03/10 but that did not mean March 10, but rather 10th week of 2021.

So is week 10 production for 2021 the week of March 7-13?

My X7 is supposed to be produced during week 11 so is that March 14-20? Since my order was placed 2/23 hoping I'm still able to get that full Executive package!

Week 10 of this year is Feb 28 to March 6 (https://www.timeanddate.com/date/weeknumber.html). I would guess you should get word this week that production started, and once you do you can call the Genius line and the automated system will give you an estimated completion. Although I just realized that timeanddate.com counts the first stub week of January as a full week and I'm not sure if that's what BMW does, so week counts from that website could be 1 week off.

I was scheduled for Week 10, my car moved to "production started" on 2/25 so a couple days early, and my estimated completion date is 3/11.

I believe week 10 is next week for BMW. I have a Week 9 M50 that is finishing up today and started production on 2/18. The Week # is the week your vehicle should complete production.

I was quoted week 10 by BMW Genius as this week. 2/28 - 3/6.

My car entered production 2/20 and found out today it completes 3/5. I believe that is Week 9.

Any idea how long it will take for the car to show up in Dallas at the Dealer?

Completion by this week? I was week 10 as well, which I interpreted as calendar week 10 or 2/28-3/6. However, if you count 12/27/20 to 1/2/21 as the last week of 2020 (since it started in 2020), then week 10 is actually 3/7/2021 to 3/13/2021.

My car went into production (third dot) 2/25, and is scheduled for completion 3/11

Only took a couple/few days four ours to get to Chicago so I would imagine about the same.
