Transmission Fault Error

I have 210~ miles on my G80, and went to start it up this afternoon, and the check engine light stayed illuminated and the display screen showed a Transmission fault, but does not require immediate service center delivery (engine performance is reduced).

I immediately shut the car off, and restarted it, same code illuminated. I restarted it one last time, and this time the code cleared, no error message. I've since stop/started the car a few more times and the error has not resurfaced.

I was hesitant to push the transmission after seeing that code, so I didn't get to really see if my engine performance is reduced or not, at this point.

First time BMW owner here, so any suggestions on what to do, other than taking my car in for a warranty visit, prior to my break-in service?

If it was me I would take it in. Not sure what "other" advice you could possibly be looking for (or what other advice anyone on here could possibly give without reading the code).

Definitely take it in. Even if it's 'nothing' now, you want it on record that it happened.

Did you by chance take a pic of it? I'd have done that and taken it to the dealer. I remember seeing owners with some issues with the DCT back in 2015 and over the years. This tranny has been pretty proven so hopefully it's just a sensor or something. Like those above said, get it "on the record".

In the FWIW category, I often get random codes on start of my BMWs. When I get a random code, I usually turn it off and restart it. If it pops again I take a picture and try a couple of more times. Not uncommon for them to clear and be nothing. Given it's new I would take it in, but from my experience if the code clears it often won't show up as having been there when they run the key, etc.

As the message has gone now i would just wait a couple of hundred more miles until you have your break-in service and report it to them at that point.
No need now to go to your dealer immediately.

I had the same problem in my M340i. It said transmission fault and that it is now in neutral. Check engine like didn't come on tho. Weird. Brought it in and funny thing is it's been the same fix for all of my issues. "Reinitialize the system".

Well done, first owner here to break the car lol.

But yeah let the dealer know, just message them about it and let them decide if it's urgent. If they say it's not and the transmission fails catastrophically later, no biggie, you did your part and now you get a new transmission + hopefully a nice loaner while they fix it.

You had the car for less than the break in period of 1,200 miles. Take it in for sure

First time BMW or not, any new car (or dealer approved used for that matter, regardless of BMW or not) I bought that showed any fault would be straight to the dealer. Even more so if CEL stayed on. I also wouldn't wait until your break-in service.

It might be just some random weirdness that'll never happen again, it could be loose connectors, or it could be any number of other things.

At the end of the day, it won't cost you anything other than a bit of time. Personally I'd rather have the peace of mind that at least they've looked at it - even if it is a 'one off' glitch.

Oh no, the transmission fault with reduced engine means a SCH! Just kidding as the S58 has the crank hub keyed unlike the S55. The error code should still be available despite the fault clearing.

Keep a note and have it looked at during the break in service. No point wasting time when that service is going to come soon anyway. It's all under warranty so whatever happens you're covered. FWIW, super cars show random errors often and it's almost always because they're started as soon as the driver sits in the car, instead of letting the electronic systems start first for 30 seconds. Congrats on the new car!
