So when will the 335d be on sale in the US? Few other questions inside

1) Will it come in a wagon?

2)Will it come in XI?

3) Will it have the same exact auto as my current 335xi?

4) What MPG is to be expected.... keeping in mind that diesel costs ( 3.50-4.00 Per gallon)

5) How much more will it be (cost wise) vs a 335?
Thanks...

My 335xi lease will be up in July and I have NO clue what to get next...

Can't help you with US specific specs (you can get a Touring/Estate version here in Europe) but ...

If you mean as AWD - no, see below.

The 335D is fitted with the same family as the newer ZF box in the 335i but designated TU (Technological Update) to handle the far higher torque levels that the 335D produces.

You are in luck. BMW is now acknowledging that the new US 335d is going to have four (count them, four!) wheels on the road, and feature a secret power source cryptically labeled "compression ignition". Any more questions?

From a BMW bulletin somewhere:

The 335d will have a best in class EPA fuel economy of 23/36 MPG making it the most fuel efficient BMW ever sold in the US as well as the highest rated EPA MPG 6 cylinder engine ever in the US. With 0-60 in 6.0 seconds it is quicker to that mark than the all new Audi A4 3.2 and the MB C350.

EDIT: To answer you question on the thread title:

The diesels will begin production in November and will be delivered to dealers mid December.

Weird... so much more torque and only 35 less hp and the car is that much slower to 60? The 335i gets to 60 in about 4.9 .... something doesnt make sense...

0-60 is a talking point, but not many actually drive like that - foot to the boards, flat out driving from stationary to 60mph in a straight line in daily driving.

The power delivery makes sense. It is just a different delivery to petrol. The area under the graph is similar, just the 335D delivers more lower down the rev scale.

Try the 30-50 (etc) in top figures .... they'll make a 335i wilt. In real world terms as has been proven AD INFINITUM on the UK board there is literally nothing in the out and out pace between a 335i and 335D.

Swings and roundabouts. Whatever is your taste. High revving/singing or effortless surging pace.

Go try one. Simplest way to see if it will suit your driving aspirations.

Transfer case and front diff not strong enough? Just a guess. There is the X5 35d (or whatever they call it) but that has more room for beefier driveline gear. 425ft-lbs is quite a lot.
