XHP for D Mode

Hi All,

I'm thinking of mapping XHP (not sure what stage) on my ZF box.

I'm not particularly fussed about DS or M modes as I rarely use them, my question is regarding D mode.

I find the box to be ok but sluggish in stock form and was wondering if the XHP map improves it any way?

I've done a lot of searches and everyone largely mentions the others modes which don't really pertain to me.

Thanks!

Yes it does, speeds up D mode too, (not excessively though, something in the region of 25% if I recall correctly) you can also play around with custom Shift points, if you find it shifts too early for your taste.

Personally use D mode to drive normally and M mode for a more spirited drive, don't really use DS mode or kickdown.

I'd probably run stage 2. Stage 3, while faster, is a bit much for a DD.

I run stage 3 on my 07' 335i. It gives you a ton of options that way. You can keep it in D for smoother/softer shifts (that you can adjust the setting on with xHP), or kick it over into DS for quicker/snappier shifts (which also have a separate group of settings you can adjust), or click it into M (which you can also adjust the settings on).

Set up this way you can really taylor the transmission to how you like it.... everything from also stock like shifts to super fast shifts.

I have never thought of running stage 2......I like having a full range of options. The line pressure boost is also really nice to have if you are running any mods that increase power....not sure if that's available in stage 2.

I am the exact same. D mode is pretty chill but the ups and down shifts are slightly quicker.
Once my car warms up or I am not in traffic, I go to M mode. The car feels much more alive compared to D.
I don't use DS much either. I think DS is only really good for hard driving if you don't want to shift manually. Driving around town is DS is kinda annoying.

I have stage 3 and love it. Well worth the money.

I can't remember if stage 2 has the throttle blipping or not. If it doesn't you 100% want stage 3. The down shift throttle blips are awesome.

The blips are ok....but I had to really dial down the 2-1 blip on the downshift. Nothing like slowing down in traffic and then having your throttle blip on the downshift into 1st and jump your car forward.....maybe it's cool at the track, but in heavy traffic I don't want the DME blipping my throttle on its own like that.

I've only had it on my car for a week. It's ooookay. Still wish I had a manual. Better than stock but I'm not blown away by it. You could always smooth out sport mode and just drive in that. I actually prefer DS at all times except for the lack of upshifting after getting on it. Which is the point though of DS. For the cost it's definitely worth it. I'll continue to mess with the settings to get it right where I want. Throttle blips are cool but the lurching it causes is weird.

I wish there was something out there to give me greater control over the shifts in my 6MT

Slow down the blips and they become a lot smoother. I believe I did 3>2 -25% and 2>1 -35%. This removed the lurching and became a lot smoother. There are so many custom settings you really need to dial it in for your liking.

Yeah.....the "throttle blipping" is kind of a novelty.......an automatic transmission doesn't really need or benefit from it. Yeah, it kind of sounds cool....but like others have said, the lurch forward it gives you when it downshifts is weird....I don't like the throttle opening on its own and jumping the car forward when I'm not pressing on the pedal.... especially in stop and go traffic.

The line pressure bump is worth the money....keeps the 6HP21 from slipping when you start hitting it with big power/torque.

That's what I ended up doing.....I pretty much completely got rid of the 2-1 blip, it was annoying and almost dangerous feeling when coming to a stop and then having the throttle blip and the car jump forward on you.

I agree, my 2>1 might actually -45% now that I think about it.
I also want to play with the D mode a little to make it hold each gear a little longer. I Haven't looked into that yet. I know it's good for gas mileage and comfort but I don't always want to be on 6th gear by 60km/hr. If I remember if you adjust this for up shifts you also have to adjust the downshifts points as well. I could be wrong.

Yeah mine shifting into 6th too early, annoying. Will try upping+ the shift point. Don't really think it will make much difference to gas mileage, Gas mileage is terrible anyway, unless you cruising and driving like a granny, lol.

I'm going to try reducing the shift points on DS mode significantly to see if I can them down to D level, prefer the snappy shifts to the D mode slushy shifts.
