2007 on a JB3

Let the flaming begin....

I have searched, but can not figure this out. I have a 2007 335i that was shipped here from Germany in July of last year. I haven't seen it yet tho.

Is there a possibility of an oil cooler, or no chance, or it definitely has one. I've seen the thread about getting one installed with the warranty. Now the car only has 11k miles, so I believe it is going to have service done at 15k. I want to install a JB3. What software do I have if my car has never seen a dealership since driving away. Do I still need to be against the upgrades? Ive learned a lot but not how it pertains to an 07.

Also, since I believe I have the old software, this is a good thing for getting a JB3. If they never upgrade I can just take the JB3 out every time and have a "decent" chance of not getting caught. Not looking for guarantees, just trying to figure this all out.

I doubt the dealership will retrofit an oil cooler for you since your car never came with one.. they usually replace fuel pumps or things that are already on your car... I could be wrong but I dont think anyone has gotten an oil cooler from the dealer.

get the pre v29.2 JB3 and you will be fine.

Oh, guess i was confused. And I should refuse all upgrades to 29.2 due to lag, right?

I got an oil cooler retrofit from the dealer on my car. If his car has a sports package and no oil cooler bmwna will most likely grant the installation. for me it was easy, I called them and they called the dealer and told them to set it up.

Even if you don't have the oil cooler, you can install the JB3 without any problems (PROcede V3 as well to keep it fair)

If your car has been upgraded or gets upgraded to post 29.2 you just need to get the JB3 1.1v which will not leave any codes behind. A bunch of post 29.2 JB3 users have taken their car to the dealer (after removing the tune of course) and none of them had any issues. It is truly invisible.

Your car has been running very hot. I don't know if they ask for proof though...

It really cant hurt to try. I wonder if it is better to just take the 29.2 and not raise any flags, than to cause a scene and keep the old version

Fotios is correct....it is extremely easy to get an oil cooler retrofit on a sp 335. All it takes is an e-mail from you to your SA with a one paragraph statement about what's going on. Basically you say "my car's been running hot". Tell them it's running as high as 275-280....that should take care of it.

At my dealer...this whole process takes less then 1 week.

This is basically all you need to say....in the form of an e-mail. You don't need proof....just your request in writing is all it takes.

Do you guys know if it is possible to get the oil cooler retrofit on a '08 335xi with sports package?

Mine doesn't have it (or the speed limiter increase) because it came from the factory with 17in rims, which it doesn't make any sense AT ALL to me.

I feel cheated by BMW.

Get the Dinan or VK oil cooler and you'd be all set

They have cracked down of late. Since the summer it has been more difficult. The SA locally said call the 800 number. Some get lucky some are told to you dont need it. You might try to say you saw 300degree oiltemps at the track.. but they might also tell you your warranty is gone anyway if you track the thing.

I know someone who got it done around april.. but since it runs bmwusa about 2K also, they arn't too likely.

I might be set, but I'll also have ~$2500 less in my account.

BMW should install it for free. Actually, they should've installed it when they built the car!

The VK unit is not that expensive and it's a major upgrade from stock oil cooler.

Good luck getting BMW to pay for it. I tried and failed on my old E90. You'll probably have to have limp modes 2ndary to oil temp before they'll do it for you.....

I got a free oil cooler retrofit, sport package should get them on 335i... if not, you can get a retrofit... just floor it from 0-80 about 20 times on a hot day, and that take a picture of your oil temp showing 280+... worked for me...

As for the jb3... we have a version for 2007's that have never been updated (pre-29.2) and we have a version that works on ALL cars... 2007-2009 (v81/29.2+). If you worried about it, just get the version that works on all cars, its fully backwards compatitble... makes it a no-brainer.

Congrats man!!! You are going to be blown away the first time you step on your 335. I had a lot of trouble sleeping for the first couple of days and I found myself standing in the garage in the middle of the night just looking at my car

That could very well be the case. When I went through mine it was in July....like I said I had no issues whatsoever....but that was 4 months ago.
