///M S55 oil filter for n52 n54?
Stumbled across this oil filter today. Genuine BMW part, exactly the same dimensions as our n52, n54 filter, but this filter is only listed for M3, M4 with S55 engine. I'm guessing it would have better filtration than the standard one?
Thoughts on using this in our n52s and n54s? |

Very interesting find.
I would not assume it to have better filtration properties automatically- if there is any performance difference between the non M part it may be the other way around (reduced filtration effectiveness traded for a better flow rate at a given pressure differential) for high RPM use. In this case there would be a different filter media, but potentially not a visible one. It looks slightly different on camera but that's not enough to be certain. If there are more pleats it's possible for it to support the same particle size (filter effectiveness, essentially) AND a higher flow rate at a given pressure differential, so if you wouldn't mind counting and doing a visual comparison to another non M filter- you may be on to something if you spot differences. Make sure they're the same manufacturer if you are willing to do this, however. Definitely keep us updated! Cool find. |
