Would be tough. They do an inspection beforehand and go for a test drive.

I kind of figured they would know, but how much would that effect the price.

Im trying to determine if i should sell the cats and car separately or if i am going to have to put the cats back on.

Just take it to them and try. If they find a down pipe they won’t buy it because they won’t be able to sell it and clear smog

But why Carmax in the first place? I can't imagine how you're not losing out on at least 15-20% of what you can get selling it yourself.

Its my backup plan. It is an inconvenience to sell cars private party sometimes, tons of tire kickers and endless messages. The f10 550i doesnt seem to sell very fast where i live. Ive seen the same ones for sale for months and months.

The difference in my area from trade in calue to private part is only going to be about 4k so i am not sure the hassle and wait time is worth selling private when i can trade it to carmax for like 11k with no hassle. I plan to try and sell private for a couple weeks and than if no sale, drop it off at carmax.

Pretty sure you'll have to sign that there are no aftermarket parts on the car. You probably do NOT want to lie on the sales documents.

You may want to consider an auction site like BAT or carsandbids. These places are frequented by people who are more likely to view your modification as a benefit plus you'd have a firm timeline for the sale and the auction site manages all the messaging, etc.

Just for anyone else that is looking to do the same thing, they inspected the car, drove it, and bought it.

Was never asked about condition or any modifications. Also, never signed any paperwork pertaining to modification/smog/safety/or condition.
