4 Series Sunshade
Just got a BMW sunshade for the windshield and am wondering how the heck to get it to fit behind the rearview mirror or if I'm just special

Maybe you need to bend parts? My Star Wars one from my Subaru didn’t fit so I just had my front windshield tinted to help with heat.
Just watched a video on a 3 series and it’s cut a huge cutout for the mirror. What’s the part number of your sunshade. |

This is the video I watched before I bought mine. It's not too complicated, you kinda just have to open it as you're putting it up on the dash. Did you buy the correct part? |

I tried out the BMW one made for the 4 that I got as a gift. It was okay - semi-rigid, but super shiny, bumpy, and sized a bit small. It was a bit too flimsy and sagged/bent in use. I ditched it in favor of the stiffer, more durable and greater coverage Covercraft UVS100 model made for the 4. The fit and finish of the Covercraft is much nicer than the BMW option.
I use a sunshield pretty close to daily, year-round. The UVS is easy to put up and take down, and slide it behind the pass seat to store it. With the Alcantara dash a sunshield is a must have. Neither has any clearance issues with the rear view mirror...

This is the one I got. I'll have to look at my receipt for the part number but I got it directly from the parts counter at my local BMW.
I did have to bend it on the red line drawn on the pic, but luckily it didn't crease too bad. The one from the video above, I had that one for my previous 3 series, but this one has a narrower and deeper groove that goes behind the mirror and around the sensors. It's a little tricky to get on at first but I'm used to it now and it fits perfectly from edge to edge with no gaps. It's pretty hefty and sturdy so it does sag a bit, but it doesn't look too bad. It makes a huge difference in interior temp when my car is sitting out in the sun, which is always lol

You don't realize how small the windshield and upper dash area are until you have to cram a sunshade in there

For reference, here’s a pic showing the Covercraft’s fitment.
As you can see, it's wider at the mirror. To use it, I just unfold it and slide the bottom towards the glass, lift the top up, then flip down the visors. |

Maybe it just doesn’t fit the car windows properly? It often happens to cheap sunshades mass-produced to fit many cars.
It doesn’t like such not qualitative products because it’s a waste of time and money. I prefer to pay a little more but get something more reliable and qualitative that would last much longer. That is why I choose sun shades from sharpshades.com.au that are custom-made for each car model and guaranteed to fit your car's windows. They also protect the car's insides from UV rays and make it safer for kids. I also like the quality of the build and the fact they last much longer than the others.
