I don't always agree with these guys, but do agree with a majority of this one.
I prefer the BMW construction and styling, interior and exterior, which is why I keep coming back to BMW. The Maybach price... holy crap. I do wonder why we don't have dual sun visors in the X7 and variants. But that rear seating in the Maybach, ohhhhhh.... THAT is what I keep saying I want for the X7. See 7:35 in that video. That ultra-luxury, coccooned dual seating with recline, using space where the 3rd row would go as well. Rumor is, that's what's coming in the X8, and the X8 price might go to that Maybach level or even higher.

What the hell is going on with the lower front fascia of the Maybach? Has the same aesthetic as those tacky chrome grills you could add to the Chrysler 300 back in the day.

Oh yes, bounce mode? Really? If we had that on the X7, I would see me using that once, if I were in some sort of "please give me attention" mood. Other than that, don't see that being useful, even in winter Alaskan snow.

I actually saw a two-tone one at a dealer yesterday. They aren't as bad as I thought they were, definitely flashy, but that's Benz for ya.

It's tough to beat the name recognition of
Maybach - not being a hardcore "car guy," I definitely knew about Maybach and had never heard of Alpina - if you want to be showy, clearly Maybach is the winner. If you want a driver's car, clearly the Alpina. ("clearly" to me, that is) |

Here are some photos of the Maybach that I captured during The Masters Golf Tournament this year. Wasn't able to get a side profile pic. Personally, I prefer the Alpina.

Blue looks quite nice. Didn't realize they had any W223 Maybach's in the states.

Hard to watch these two dorks for more than a few seconds. Not a surprise that they actually prefer the styling of the Maybach. It looks like the Mercedes designers stole a front grille from an 80’s Buick.

I have never been impressed with the Maybach prestige idea when it tries to represent itself on the same level of Bentley or Rolls Royce. I would rather MB put its top efforts in the "S-Class" that actually has a long established history. If I feel the need to "wallet flex", its not going to be with a Maybach. |
