lease over mileage
Hey guys,
Quick question for you. I have a 2006 325i about 5 more months on my lease. I am Just at my over mileage mark. I know it's .20 cents a mile over. I called bmw financial. they will sell me more miles discounted to .16 cents a mile. I am planning on another bmw in march. There's no other car I would consider. Should I purchase more miles or try to work a deal with the dealership when I go to get my new one? Cory

With 5 more months on your lease and given the crappy state of the new-car market, I would try to work out a deal for a new BMW with your dealer now and see what happens (early lease out).

I went in not long ago and he said my car isn't available for an early lease out. Should I talk to another dealer?

The cost of excess miles is fixed, so the new deal is going to contain this overage charge somewhere in it... perhaps at .20. I would buy the extra miles and then negotiate the new car without this outstanding obligation. Makes it clearer to see what exactly you're paying.

Typically I understand that early lease terminations are available with 2 months or less left in the lease.
I wonder today if your dealer (or another for that matter) would not be willing to put up some cash at it were to get you into another Bimmer. You can tell them that the alternative for you would be to buy out the residual and hang on to the car for a few years (i.e. give them the impression that their choice is between a sale and no sale). Just thinking out loud here.

Some good options mentioned above. If your dealer wants to sell/lease you another vehicle, one of the options should be possible. If not immediately, then perhaps in another month or two as you near the lease-end date. If they refuse to budge, you could ask them if they think a different dealer would do this for you. And... wait until the end of the month when the dealer may be more willing to go the extra mile for you in order to meet their monthly sales figures. Hey... that's today!

I have 2 months remaining on my lease, and my dealer wanted me to buy my lease out, so they waived the last 2 payments and also took $3,500 off the buyout price of the car. I pretty much could save $5,000+ by buying it now. They are hurting and will work for your business. I wouldn't be surprised if they let you out of your lease now and waived your mileage if you went with another BMW lease.

i say go talk to the dealership and turn the CAR in now and try to get another lease in that case both you and the dealership benefit, the dealership will give away another lease and the car that they take in will not be over the miles and you get a new car out of it. i say push them until they give you what you want.

I was told by my CA here that they're willing to accomodate 5 months in either direction from the original lease termination date should I choose to replace my BMW with another. So I guess it really depends on the dealer.
