x5 35d - compared to 45e
Hello All,
I have a 35d with about 65K miles on it. I'm toying with the 45e, and wondered if anyone else had made the change. I'm now used to 25mpg (US) as a norm, and I have also chipped the 35d which I think adds zip in the 55mph and up range (RaceChip). I would chip the 45e also after doing it to the 35d. Reason to move, new tech, upgrade seats, get sports package, new color, upgrade sound system. But 600 mile range is nice too. Comments? Thx! |

The Diesels with there unique range and unique torque low down are a fantastic proposition are victims of tax grabs by regulators . I can easily get well in excess of 650 mile range from my GO5 m50d but I dont think this engine is available any more in fact is any diesel available in USA . Question is are you disciplined enough to plug a 45e in regularly ?

FWIW, once you have it, plugging in when you get home (or at the office, if you have the opportunity), takes all of about 10-seconds, so it's no big deal. Once you get into the habit, it's nothing. |

I try to avoid plugging things in…such a hassle. Other than my phone, computer, watch, earbuds, tablet, flashlights, batteries, electric generator, Bluetooth speaker, GoPro, and surgical headlamp I find it hard to remember to recharge anything

i had 35d for several years and it was great car. Sold it because we stopped taking long tours and it doesnt make sense to me to have diesel for short suburban commutes below 30 miles a day.
45e works great for us and become out family car. 40 miles electrical range is perfect for us and plug in procedure not a problem even for my wife. All depends on your mileage |
