Let's Rubber Floor Mat It

My daily driver is an R1200RT, but I do plan to use my E90 M3 year round. In winter, I switch to rubber mats. For this car, I went with OEM BMW mats with a carpet heel pad on the driver mat. BMW sells at least 2 different kinds of rubber mats, and I am quite happy with these. The front mats have velcro provisions like most BMW mats sold today.

Good idea for winter and snow and slush. Would have been useful if I still lived in Toronto. The car will stink from all the water in the carpet and the heater blowing on it. YUCK

They were cheap. I paid about $60 for all 4. Maybe less, I will have to check when I get home. I think retail might have been $80 or so.

I buy all parts from Bert Smith BMW, but I have a pretty substantial wholesale account with them. Tischer is probably your best price.

I had these mats in my previous car, a 335 coupe, and I put them in my M3, but there's one thing I hated about them; the fabric area get really wet especially if you have snow on your shoes, and the back of my shoes used to touch it sometimes which would leave water marks and end up staining the leather. Also, the raised rubber bits need to be higher, the mat tends to fill with water quickly. I don't plan on driving the M3 in the winter so I don't care anymore, but it really used to annoy me.

I agree the sides are too low, these would be absolutely perfect if the ridges were recessed lower and had higher side walls

Also the cloth bit could be rubber instead, but in terms of grip and not having your feet slip from under you might have been the main idea

Are there no M specific Matts?

There are no M-specific rubber mats.

Supposedly your heel point is one of the ways you feel fatigue faster. I think the carpet will help that some.

There is another OE rubber mat set... I will get those too eventually and post pics/review. FYI, aftermarket Weathertech mats are all rubber and have exceptionally high walls.

I have these mats as well and they suck.

The mats ALWAYS get pushed up to the pedals bunching up.

My Audi has the 2 huge circles where the mats clip into which is the ideal solution not sure why BMW still does this.

Are you using the velcro and the screw-in inserts? Mine do not move at all.

That would explain a lot. Mine came with 4 inserts.. I think they are available separately too: 51479171368 for qty 1.

I should double check my brakes....maybe the pads were an option too!

It is pretty lame. They should be standard and/or built-in to the carpet.

Check your trunk where the tool kit sits. There may be a baggy holding two velcro circles that screw in. Pull the little plugs under the floor mat and replace them with velcro screw ins. I found this a few days after purchase. Like it.

I just got the all rubber all weather mats and they're great. I do find it hilarious that I had to do the screw in thing to install the fronts but overall I'm happy. Although they are not M specific, they do say "BMW" on both the fronts and rears.
