Carbon Brakes (Stoptech)
Hey everyone, just thought I'd share some interesting info I found today...
http://m3forum.net/m3forum/showthread.php?t=177624 A couple notes: The Gen 1 Stoptech Carbon Ceramic BBK costs $15k. For the carbon rotors to upgrade an existing Stoptech BBK its $9k. Stoptech and Movit brakes are made by the same manufacturer (Surface Transforms) StopTech Gen 1 kit has a HP restriction of 500 hp, to prevent oxidation issues on the rotors. The Gen 2 kit, will not have a hp restriction. Expected lifetime of the rotors is 150k miles! P.S. Thanks to Dave Zeckhausen for the info!

Wow, 150k miles, of abuse and hard driving. Thats almost worth those asinine price tags.

Yes, hard abuse is what the issue has been with the Porsche PCCB's. Oxidation is the enemy of CCM brakes. And you get oxidation by running them very hot for extended periods of time, like track days. Lots of Porsche track guys have switched back to iron due to the insane replacement costs ($1700+ each!). Not an issue on the street, however. We'll have to see if S/T gets this very challenging issue sorted out as they use a different supplier.
