>>>Early Break In Period<<<

How many of your guys got your "Break in" service done early. I took her in at 830miles for the first service, I tried to get the oil changed at 430 but the service manager told me that bmw says a minimum of 700miles.. I will be changing the oil at the 2K mark so I can send it in for a oil analysis.

Cheers.

So no oil change at 830? If so, why change again at 2K? I have around 800 miles now on my 08 and I'll probably wait till 1200 miles. Isn't the oil change part of the 1200 mile service?

No they did change the oil at 830miles>> I am changing it again to get a oil analysis since all the break in crap is all out (the oil that was changed at 800).

Today while I was leaving the mall, I forgot to change to the D mode, leaving the 1st gear unchanged and hit the 8,000s rpm. The car has already ran over 1,300KM, but still not yet 2,000 KM. I was gradually accelerated and I changed the gear after I realized the problem. Is that hurt the car??

I had mine done at 650 but it was kind of special circumstances. I live 3 hours from my dealer. I had an idrive component go bad 4 days after I bought the car so I had to take it back. They gave me a loaner 335i and ended up keeping mine for a couple of days. I didn't even bring it up, they asked me if I wanted the service done, considering the distance I had to go, they would try to get permission from BMWNA to do the break in service early to save me another trip back. SA said they had done them at 850 before but not at 650. Anyway, they got special permission from the vice president of the international commision on early break in service or whatever and got it done. That doesn't mean I am done with break in... I'm still following recomendations. I will probably change oil myself at around 5000 miles or maybe earlier. If I didn't live so far away, and they didn't have the car for a couple of days anyway, they definitely would not have done it that early.

If anything, fine metallic or other sediments and particulate which are worn off as the engine breaks-in and the other parts are seated and mate with each other.

I was talking about the break in oil. Is it different oil and, if so, in what way?

Thanks

I had mine done at 950 due to the distance from my residence to my preferred dealership of choice. My car was already in service for an EDC issue, so it made no sense to drive home (..which would have put me at 1000 miles), only to drive back to the dealership a couple of weeks later.

Doubt it, but stick with the break in rest of the way...

I don't think hitting 8000 rpm will hurt anything. Some say it is better actually. You won't lose power or hurt anything, but go gentle until you have 3000 miles.

I did the same thing coming out of the driveway... thought it was in D, but it was in 1st, and I went up to 6500RPM and I have about 370 miles or so... I had been running the engine for about 3 minutes at this point... the needle had moved off the lowest temp, but still... not the best thing to do. But I figured once in the break in period was probably ok.

If you just went there and back down I severely doubt any damage occurred.
