just switched from/to the dark side

Hello all,

Coming out of a 2019 Audi SQ5, got a great deal on a 2022 BMW X3 M40i -- never owned a BMW before, and was ready to place an order for one, but missed the allocation slot. Well a buddy from LeaseHackr reached out and let me know there was a x3 m40i available on the ground (rare) just came in, and I can grab it, so a quick look at the specs available on the car and I was sold. It already had more specs than I could add on the BMW builder due to these chip/parts shortages. Well I'm picking this bad boy up on Saturday and I'm stoked for the 2 hour drive back home to break her in a little.

Here are the specs:

Looking forward to seeing what other things I can do/add to the car once it gets here and if there is any tips/tricks you guys can share!

Wow lucky! I was also looking for one on the ground that was available in the northeast and had no luck. Was able to get one ordered yesterday with an allocation a dealer had.

Yeah man it’s impossible. I had a few dealers get me allocation but discount wasn’t there. If I wanted the discount I had to wait, but then this deal came around and it had all the extra features you can’t even build with anymore so couldn’t say no. Only thing I really wanted was the black wheels instead of bicolor and red seats… but can always powder coat the wheels later and I’ll take the upgraded black seats compared to the sensatec red seats.

Thank you!
You do realise that in BMW speak N/C stands for 'No Chips'. They are genuine OEM non-functional parts.

I think in some markets they give you a mini sign up with a mobile internet provider to give you the in car wifi. In the UK you can sign up in a similar way but I 'think' its only a month free as a trial then a monthly charge. Or just let kids connect to your own hotspot on you phone, job done.

Maybe I imagined it, but I thought the WiFi "Hot Spot" functionality had been removed ????

In the UK, I think the cars have a Vodafone 4G sim for telemetry and in-car apps like Spotify. Like you said, free for a period and then chargeable, but I thought no more car Wifi Hot Spot.

^^ I don't know much about the wifi hotspot, but when I get in the car with my phone, it connects both my bluetooth and my wifi to the car. I imagine that all you need for android auto would be the bluetooth connection, but maybe I'm getting BMW wifi without even realizing it?

Also to OP --- CONGRATS! Very great find. Post some pics when you can!

Have you sat in the ventilated seats? In the pre-LCI models, they are very different from the standard seats. There are no adjustable side bolsters and the lateral support is poor. You will be sliding
around in the seats during cornering. There have been several threads about complaints regarding the ventilated seats, you may want to look into it and make sure you will be comfortable in the seats before you take the car. Sorry to be a downer, I know you're excited.

Spotify is fed by your own phone but the WiFi hotspot data if you configure it is via BMW / Mobile supplier deal so I've never even configured it.

Just looked in the latest BMW manual in the app and it basically say its all configured in the car and its there. Well its there last gen Pre-LCI car anyway maybe they have removed it in the LCI?!

Android Auto uses wifi as bluetooth doesn't have the bandwidth necessary to support AA. Bluetooth can be used just to stream audio to the car.

The hotspot wifi is where the car has a cellular connection, and devices connect to the car's hotspot via wifi to use that cellular connection. So like if you had a tablet without cellular, you could then get online via the car.

There’s a Brooklyn Grey X3 M40d in my local BMW dealer and it looks absolutely fantastic, would have definitely ordered that colour if it was available when I ordered mine.

Can’t wait to see the pics!

I test drove an 2021 X3 M40i with ventilated seats and another with sport seats (side bolster) After the test drives I knew the ventilated seats were out, even though they are a nice option for FL. This vehicle (in fact all BMW’s with the inline 6) must have the side bolstering in my opinion.

The best of both worlds. I love each of them for different reasons. The M40i is the rowdy teenager, and the SQ5 is the cool, composed adult.

I was an Audi guy for a long time, and still am. But when I was looking for a small SUV I assumed I would buy an SQ5. I test drove it and it was nice, but was just missing that element of “sport” I was looking for. Almost too composed. Plus Audi would not deal much on them. Test drove the M40i and knew I found exactly what I wanted.

I was exactly the same, took out an SQ5 but wasn't sold by it. As soon as I took out the M40i my mind was made up. So glad I got the M40i as it makes me smile every time I press the start button.
