Oil Filter Cap Tool (B48)

Seems a big mystery, but the tool size for the 230i oil filter cap is 27mm. I asked multiple vendors, they keep just saying 32mm.

Measured it with at 1 1/16" tool and confirmed size as 27mm. Only Amazon and FCP Euro sell it from my initial searches.

UPDATE: Just to confirm, I got the tool and tried it...27mm is just perfect. 1-1/16" would work too, but I know the intent was metric, so I got my 27mm oil cap tool.

Good info. Sad to see something so simple was wrong. Maybe it was a revision to 32mm at some point? What's your build date?

Built 10/2021. IDK why it can't be the same as the B58, but it's a little thing.

Glad you checked for the proper size, since it looks like vendors (including Amazon) are quoting the wrong size. Thanks for the reminder, I ordered a 32mm for my B58 engine.

The filter housing accessibility looks tight and is small. Not the easiest to service like the older BMWs where they were in the front.

Did you change the oil/filter yet? If so, how did it go? TIA

I haven't used this yet, as I still need the car to arrive, but this should keep the oil out of the engine bay. When pulling the filter

does the oil filter really leak that much oil when pulling it out? I would assume it drains back into the engine and it should be clean if you let the car sit for a bit?

I did not change it yet, but will soon. I am debating on the weight of the oil...a never ending debate with an unattainable consensus. I'm still well under 5K miles, my deadline to change it.
