Hopefully the implementation is not as problematic as the Windows CE based iDrive. However, knowing that it is Micro$oft, it will be unbelievably buggy in the first two years of its life.

It's used only for configuring cars. Why isn't the good old mouse good enough?
I suspect that M$ paid BMW to use their technology (which isn't really that new). If it's the other way round, whoever approved the project needs to be fired. |

This is all nice and rosy. But how is this going to make my car or my driving any different.

epic fail.
put a mini-Surface in place of the knob and menu button, and youve sold me. |

would be nice to see the surface used as a function inside the car not as a marketing tool to configure what type of car you want to buy. since BMW was the first to integrate the iPod inside their cars, why not start the multi-touch integration in the car that apple has been using for all their iPhones, iTouches, and now mac books.

Exactly, I don't really get this announcement. I've heard some hotels are using the Surface for concierge services, which is pretty cool and useful - but I wouldn't be interested in going to a dealer to configure my car with a Surface when a web browser from home would suffice.

Customized real size hologram of the car. That would be more impressive.
Why such a small screen to see the car? Surface = useless. IHMO. Think of all the germs. My dealership is still working off "3270" computers terminals anyway. FM
