Buying a BMW 335i with Fuel Pump Replaced

I want to buy a 335i on eBay with 17k miles for 32k, but the ad says it has been repurchased under manufacturer buyback laws and that the fuel pump was replaced. I'm not sure if it is risky to buy because it might have problems in the future or what. What should I do?

The fuel pump going out in 335i's isn't uncommon. Supposebly it's a problem with the Ethanol we have in our gas.

True, but most 335 owners here if not all have their pumps replaced, not a reason for repurchase. Find out why cause it might be lemoned.

If you like the car and you feel it is worth what you would have to pay for it, buy it.

I had the fuel pump replaced in mine and it has run perfectly ever since. It is still the FANTASTIC car it was the day I 1st drove it.

Oh ok. But do you think that there will be problems in the future with the fuel pump? Does it also affect the car's title?

Why buy somebody else's problem? Also, $32k seems high!

I don't think a bad fuel pump would be cause for a buyback. You need to find out what reason the buyback occurred. I think you are going to regret this purchase without knowing that first.

If you can get a full/remainder warranty on it, i say go for it.

Hasn't BMW fixed this issue so that it doesn't occur again or is this a band-aid fix until they come up with a new fuel pump?

Be cautious on this one. Replacing the fuel pump once is not enough reason for a buy-back. There must have been other malfunctions too. Ask for the previous owners phone number, and find out everything that went wrong. If they won't give you the phone number, then don't touch this car!

If the fuel pump fails 3 times, it can be a buyback.

I think you exaggerating a bit. I am going to say that most people on this board did not have the fuel pump replaced.

it affects the cars title and lowers the re-sale value, hence why the price is so good

i bet you can find a car with less miles and in better conditions for around the same price.

Hey guys so i was actually misinformed. The dealer bought back this car from BMW and he offered to send me the documents from BMW. The document is legit, and it says that there was an engine malfunction with reduced speed and the screen goes off and then it said that it was repaired in May and it was inspected to meet manufacturer specifications. The dealer also gave me his name and said that it was inspected by BMW Certified mechanics and it is sold with a 100% clean title. What do you guys think? Can someone run me a carfax or is that not allowed on this site?

Who put the 17k miles on it? It still wouldn't be a bad idea to contact the previous owner and report back here what the problem(s) were.

If it checks out, why not offer $27k and see what happens? If you don't get a great deal, walk away and find another one.
