335i owner with a 320i loaner
that even rhymes lol...
So I get my car out of the garage and the brake pedal will not go all the way down (!!!!) and I had to use the handbrake to stop the car. After 5 mins all was well, so I drove the car to the dealer ship and all they had was a strangely optioned 2008 e90 320i(cloth seats/idrive/xenon/power seats/non sport). To put it to perspective, the only options my 335i M Sport didn't have was (logic7 and adaptive cruise control). 1) Active steering: 1st thing I notices as I was driving off the lot. I MISS ACTIVE STEERING!!!! I never would have actually paid for it (335i in Japan have it standard), but not I am used to the extra assist and shorter turns at slow speeds--very convenient at parking lots. At mid to high speeds, the the difference is hard to tell. I will be getting this in all my future cars. 2) Engine: This car has no low end torque--which is no surprise...you really have to rev it out to go anywhere. After the initial disappointment in power, I adjusted my drving style to higher revving and it was a bit better. 3) The non-sport cloths seats are not so bad. 4) The speedo cluster in the 320i is not the same as in the 6cyl models--looks cheaper and the little screen is of lower resolutions. 5) I didn't miss comfort access so much, so if I have to pay for it on my next car, I probably won't. It was standard on my 335i. 6) Car looks fugly without the m sport body kit. I didn't want to be seen driving it. 7) The auto tranny on the 320i is a piece of cr4p compared to the fantastic unit in the 335i. Also steering mounted paddle shifters are a must if getting the auto. 8) The grey headliner looks so ugly (especially with black interior) compared to the antracite headliner in the M sports model--I still don't understand why this is not offered in the US. 9) No brake assist (or whatever its called) on the 320i. So when I let go of the brake, the car lurches forward, unlike in the 335i, where it eases forward. This car would probably roll back in an incline as well. After driving this car, I can understand why they don't bring this car to the US. This ain't no ultimate driving machine. I want my car back!!!! Last edited by akhter; 11-30-2008 at 10:09 PM.. |

I'm sure a lot of 320i owners are happy with their car

I'm trying to think of a way to break my car so that it has to be kept at the dealer for a couple days so they will give me a loaner car so put some miles on that and not have to worry about my car. Any ideas?

got my car back--they had to replace some bearing and the brake pressure valve.
the 320i isn't so bad once you get used to its powerband and rev it a lot more.... |

I just tried a 320d while my 335i was getting a replacement HPFP (!).
I was impressed!!! Heaps of torque and I suspect it would give the 320i a kick in the butt... Not as bad as I thought

I was given a 120i as a loaner whilst my E92 335i was in for a service, and I was impressed. The 120i still has a nice amount of power (170hp) and it's nice and revvy with a throaty noise. Sure, it doesn't have the low end pull of the 335i, but it was a likeable little car and the engine seemed like a great companion for the chassis.
