You can go through Costco to purchase a car. They talk to dealers and try to negotiate prices. We tried doing that a couple years ago but we got a better price on our own

That program has been in affect for a long time now. They just work with fleet managers to get you some discounts. Most of the time they work well but sometimes you can get a better deal yourself.

+1 I don't see what the big deal is. Costco car purchasing has been around for a long time. They are car brokers, and work with a huge number of brands, including BMW. I thought about buying mine through them, but I was able to get a better deal on my own.

Oh, and I am a big Costco fan. Love 'em.

I went went through Costco, too -- unfortunately their BMW dealer was in the far corner of the state -- so I bought from the nearest dealer -- for $200 more. It wasn't worth the additional time and trouble.

Don't you have to buy like 10 of them to receive the discount?

So if you buy your car at Costco, does that automatically make it a grocery getter?

Only if you get a wagon.

I'm kidding though, the E91 is actually one of the few wagons that I like.

My friend got a real nice deal on a '08 328i through Costco. I tried it but I couldn't get the Costco price because they weren't discounting the '09s as heavily and mine was a special order. I did use the price I got from Costco as a starting point from which to negotiate though.

i got my 335i deal initiated through costco but the dealer offered me a better deal than costco did so i didn't go through them at the end.

if you don't care for the BEST deal but hate hassling, this is the way to go.

You can easily sink more money into diamonds at the average Costco than the price of an E90. And the diamonds won't depreciate as badly.

No you only have to buy one car but you do have to buy a timeshare in Vegas and aluminum siding for your home or apartment

Is 20k a requirement to get a membership? I don't see any 0 to 19,999 category, which is where I would fall

Tales from a former car sales manager...

1. Some "Buying Services" would call and say..."we have a client, blah, blah, blah, they'll agree to X over invoice. You can say, "yes" or "no" then agree to a referral fee. End of story.

2. Other "Buying Services" want you to pay them a monthly fee for leads...you can work the deal just like any customer.

Costco I assume uses either method...but once you get to the dealer, they will usually make you a better deal, suffice it balances the referral fee they would pay for the "broker."

I managed a very large Acura dealership and elected to do very limited Type 2 advertising and almost zero Type 1 transactions.

My suggestion...

Get a referral for a high caliber sales pro or sales manager from a friend or message board. Send the contact an email, or call. Indicate the figure you will pay. Show up and buy the car. All hassles will be cast aside.

Honestly, everything in the store starts at $10. Not many low-income families can afford to spend $100 on 10 items when they can go to a discount grocer and get a much larger variety of $.99 Little Debbies.

Our food system is F*ed up in this country. I read a story on how an apple, with about 100 calories costs as much as a package of processed cakes, maybe 1,000-2,000 calories. For the same dollar, a low-income and/or low-educated shopper will obviously try to get the most bang for their dollar. This is the reason for our poor health. Our government subsidizes obesity (corn/soy subsidies ----> corn syrup) while the health care industry thrives on prescription drugs and health care services for obesity and related illnesses. It's a cycle that needs to end.
