Tire question for 21 inch factory rims

Please know that I have read through multiple tire threads but have yet to find a definitive answer to the following question:

What are the widest tires one can put on the factory 21 inch rims?

Sounds like 295s will work in the back without any modifications

Can 265s be put up front? Too big?

I have a 2019 X3

255 fronts 295 rear for 21" wheels.
