Swirls in B Pillar Clear Coat

My wife has a 6 month old black RX 350.

Today I noticed a bunch of swirls on the B pillar on the passenger side. Nowhere else. And no idea how it happened. Car has never been machine washed.

It looks noticeable dull / hazy when compared to the driver's side.

Thoughts on how to deal with it? Something my car wash can buff out or should I take it to a body shop? Something I can attempt to fix myself?

No idea what material it is, but I'm guessing that glossy black trim? If so you can usually just polish that like you would the body paint.

Yeah. Glossy black trim. You think it's something the car wash can do? Or should I head to a body shop?

Try the swirl remover first. Brought to you by any auto parts store.

I'll be honest with you. That's a lost cause. Even if you're anal and your car is wiped only by the finest baby soft microfiber towels, the elements just wreck havoc on the glossy trim side pieces.

Can confirm, have ocd basically.

Yeah I totally know what you mean. But this one looks extreme. Not just standard wear.

Try a reputable detailer if you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself.

Okay well next time you should probably lead with - "looks like my wife drove through barbed wire."

I'm only kidding. Try the swirl remover, if not, I promise it will be buff out. Orbital brush detailer will have it looking showroom new. Also, this will determine if the detailer is worth a lick - lots of crevices, nooks and rubber for the reside to get into. The fine powder dust left from the orbital. Good detailer will get all that out and not give you back a vehicle looking like someone snorted lines on your trim.

If you just want to try something cheap yourself - Turtle Wax makes color correcting wax - and they have it in black. Don't see any reason why it would not take those out.

Since that part is typically plastic, it's more prone to scratching when you wash. So if you have a bunch of debris in your mit while going over this part...that's more than likely the start of the issue.

If you have a DA polisher and correction compound, you can buff out all the swirls on the B pillars and it will look showroom new again. I bought our G05 X5 back in November and the B pillars looked like your pics. I used my DA polisher with Meguiars correction compound on microfiber pad and it buffed out everything.

hard to tell with pictures.

best to start with least aggressive product and since the area is small should be able to work it by hand.

I'd try P21 Gloss Enhancer and microfiber towel or foam applicator on a freshly washed car and do quite a few applications.

Both my cars need a wax so I'm going to call a detailer over and have him wax both and polish out the B pillar.

Do you own a DA ? Fine finishing polish ? If not go to a reputable Detailer. It’s not hard but you need to know how to polish.

Where are you located ? Perhaps a member can help if Reccomemded a detailer.

Ended up finding a proper detailer that got the marks out perfectly.

Although the first guy tried and failed. Then said it would need to be sanded and painted.

Good work is hard to find.

Good deal...one out of the box thought is to get those parts wrapped. I put carbon fiber wrap on my main gloss black areas. Looks great and lasts pretty long. Did it on my previous car too. People just naturally grab those parts all the time and it drives me nuts.
