Close? or not even

this guy says his sl500 is WAYYY faster than my 335i... but im about 99.5% positive that a sl500 (not the amg sl63 or 65) is pretty slow compared to a TT'ed 335i. what do you guys think?

Its slow, ive encounterd a few already. As well as the clk500 (older gentleman decided to test me) he floored it and i can hear his v8 starting to scream... then i downshifted and took him by so many cars, its not even funny. I think all the 500's (e, s, sl, clk, cl) all have that v8 lag in their throttle, its so bad.

i just think its generally SLOW in every aspect.. its a 24 valve v8... its like a 2008 mustang gt engine but crappier lol...

I dont think they made a silver arrow sl500 (2003-2007) ? There was I believe prior to 2003.. and after 2007.. OP, what SL year are you referring too, can't be later than 2007 since its SL550 now rather than Sl500

There is really one (modern) Merc worth owning and it's shown below. The rest of the modern ones are crap... even the SLR.

Good point. They are relatively fast, but not fast enough to keep up with the 335i. OP, I say you race for pinks!

But don't blame me if he has a kleeman supercharger kit in it.

My mom had an 03' SL500. I've driven the car A LOT over the summer and I must say, this car is pretty slow for some reason. It has the same power (approx 300hp/300 lb ft) but it's extremely heavy (4,300 lbs). The car went from 0-60 in 5.9 seconds or something. Whether its from a dig or from a roll, the 335 will EASILY beat the car. No problem.

From personal experience, the car was pretty bad. It did look good, but the driving dynamics were horrible. It was in no way a sports car, yet it was uncomfortable to be a true GT. The car is gone. It was a lease and we just got a new SL550 this Monday.

I haven't driven it yet, but it's MUCH improved. It will probably keep up with the 335 (stock).

my mom has an e350 and I have been in an sl500 and to be honest, every time I go from my mom's car if she is driving somewhere or I drive it for whatever reason it's my last choice of the 3 cars we have. It just feels so cheaply made. I mean we have had this steering problem when the steering wheel is shaking like a seizure and it feels like everything is plastic. just cheap to say the lease. I'm very certain this is the last mercedes we will have in the family. my mom has been dying for her lease to be up since it started, said it was a mistake lol

my buddy has a CLK55.. and my quarter mile time was 13.3 as opposed to his 13.5... but i think the clk has a detuned engine...

The CLK55 is the 5.5 V8 N/A. Same engine as the SL55, but the SL has the supercharger also. Big difference

It is in no way even close to being shit like a mustang gt engine. Regarding which car is faster, it depends whether his SL is MY 2006 or before. Until 2006, the SL 500 had the exact HP as the 335i. After 2006, the 500 has 388 HP. If its pre-2006, the outcome would be rather obvious, but if its a fairly new one, its a close call, its heavier but it has a lot more power.

I really have no idea why the nomenclature wasn't changed in Europe to reflect this. With the introduction of the 5,461cc 32-valve engine here the cars became "550". Across the pond they're still selling them as "500" but with the larger more powerful powerplant.
