First S.O.B. moment?
So I had my first "son of a bitch" moment in my new '08 E92 335i on Tuesday morning. As I'm driving down I-94 into downtown Detroit for work, a POS Ford Focus cuts me off in the left lane and a split second later kicks up a black plastic/rubber object. It comes flying straight towards my face until my windshield rudely interrupts its flight, making a LOUD noise. I was for sure it had cracked my windshield. So I get to work and check on the damage. The object left two "skid marks" up the middle of the windshield, but no structural damage from what I could tell. It was freezing outside, so I just made sure I could scratch the marks off and went into work. I get home that evening and was able to remove all the marks with some good ole Windex and newspaper (for a touch more abrasiveness vs. towel). But surely enough, there were tiny scratches left in the glass, that I felt as I ran my fingernails gently over it.
So that was my first "son of a bitch" moment in this car...do y'all remember yours?

So far nothing with this car (knocking on wood)
The day I drove my 540 off the lot, I went to pick up my daughter from day care. When I came out, I had a door ding on the passenger side! I was sick to my stomach. Fortunately the paintless dent removal guys were able to get rid of it the next week. The week I got my E55, I was waxing it for the first time and scratched the painted satellite receiver housing with my wedding ring. I know, what an idiot. Now when I wash the cars, I wear sweats without snaps or buttons and leave my ring and watch in the house. |

Driving home after work. All of a sudden it smells like my whole wiring harness is melting down. I mean it really smelled bad. I was screaming...."wtf.....POS BMW.....I will never get another one of these". I was ready to pull over when I noticed this piece of shit Toyota in from of me pull over and as soon as I was passed him....no more smell. I only have 2500 miles on this thing. Bad day for him. Another good day for me.

I had mine a week before its first ding in the parking lot here at work. Fortunately, I was in the car at the time because I was finishing up a phone conversation. I got out, and the guy didn't know I had been in there. He looked like he saw a ghost. Sad thing is, I guarantee he just woulda left without leaving a note or anything. Douchebag. He drove a Rendezvous so he's actually doubly douchebaggy.

Sorry to offend those sensitive ones out there with the POS comment. But, in my case, it was a POS Ford Focus. Cars in decent shape=non-POS and then cars in bad shape=POS. This WAS a POS Ford Focus. If it were a brand-new car, I would've said a brand-new Ford Focus.
My first car after I got my license was a '96 Pontiac Sunfire GT. Back then, awesome (but girly) car. Now after 12 years, still a Pontiac Sunfire GT...but it's a PIECE OF SHIT!

Around the second week of owning my car, I was conditioning my driver side rear leather seat with the car in my garage and the door half open; as I leaned inside more, my fat ass swung the door fully open into a pillar in my garage.
It left 2 really hard to notice marks and I immediately called E90post member 328i and went to his place to get it polished out. |

Merging onto I-99 in Altoona, a rock came flying over the side of the on ramp like someone was hiding in a bush and threw it. There is a neighborhood where it came from so it could have been kids... The rock hit the driver side of the windshield and made an 11" crack right through my line of sight.
Filed a police report and called insurance, Windshield was replaced for around $500 under insurance. On the plus side I now have the Grey sun tint at the top of the windshield, which looks wayyyyy better than the blue.

my was literally a piece of shit moment. the third day after my family got X5 back in 04, we drove it to the beach during sunset. after i got into the car, i notice the incredible foul smell of dog shit, thought it was from the outside since there was a dog park nearby.
how wrong was i! as i discover the second day's morning, i stepped on some big dog shit and smudge it all over the carpet and the running board of the new car...

The day I curbed one of my 197's driving through an unfamiliar parking lot at night about 2 months after I took delivery. It's just a car I know, but I just couldn't shake the horrible feeling for two days.

mine was kinda the same as the OP, I was driving to LA and a lexus drove over a piece of tire that Caltrans didn't pick up... DUMBASSES!!! anyways the rubber tire shattered my passenger side headlight and made a huge mark on my windshield. That was with my E46 btw.

Backing out of my driveway I use my fence as a guide to not hit the curb behind my driveway. Second day of having the car, and Im using the fence as a guide, forgetting that im not in my GTI anymore and the 335 is much longer.
I hear a crunch, and thought for sure my exhaust or rear spoiler had been destroyed on the high curb. I sit there in shock for a minute, slowly get out and realize I ran over a plastic bottle and was a mile away from the curb!
