Weird Oil Cooler Issues... Confused

I know that oil coolers and oil temps are discussed quite a bit on this forum but after reading many threads, I'm finding conflicting info...

I purchased my car pre-owned and it's an '07 335i coupe with the sport package and a production date of Sept-06. According to everything I'm reading, my car would NOT have an oil cooler.

However, it DOES have the cooler in the front passenger fender well (see picture). The conflicting issue also is that the temp gauge reads from 120 to 300 and based on what I've read here, that is the temp gauge for the non-oil cooler cars!

So, what's going on here???

Also, my temps hover around 240ish even on cooler days and regular driving.

Am I missing something?

240 isn't anything to worry about. I'm sure the oil cooler was retrofitted.

Highpressure fuel pump. I guess your car is an step? If so yes, retro. Rare but it happens ;-)

Re:240 - the oil thermostat will ensure it gets to that temp before opening allowing flow to the OC.

No, my car is a manual. So, maybe it came with the oil cooler? I'm not sure.

The previous owner was a lease so I'm not sure why he'd ask for a retrofit and spend the money on that.

Also, I went ahead and had them do the hpfp replacement under the recall.

So, do you think my car had the oil cooler retrofit or do you think because it was a 6spd coupe with the sport package that it had it from the factory?

Yes, the early build manuals with sport package came with the oil cooler, the Steptronics did not, so its not unusual for your car to have it from the factory.

Mine is an '07 with an April build date. It did come with the cooler . It looks like quite a bit of trash around the exhaust duct on yours. An occasional douching at the car wash will help keep the fins clean. Mine runs about 235 - 240 in the summer. I do good to see 230 in the winter here.
