Does anyone have any recent experience on being on a wait list and how long did it take before you had a production number? Also, do dealers get allocations once per month?

I’m ready to move forward on my order and am number 4 on the list. I’m excited and trying to be patient!

I ordered on 3/18. The dealership did not have an allocation but said they would trade for one so I proceeded with the order. I have since learned securing an allocation is easier said than done. After a couple weeks of waiting, I took it upon myself to call every dealership within 200 miles to find an allocation. A helpful sales manager told me there were only 2 in the midwest and 40 nationwide, mostly in CA. I badgered my salesperson daily asking for a status update on the allocation trade. They finally got one this past Friday and my vehicle is currently scheduled. I BELIEVE allocations come out once a month and they are model specific. My dealer traded an X5M allocation for my M40i.
I wasn't a dick and I have purchased many cars from my dealership. I have a good relationship with my salesperson but I believe you have to press the issue sometimes to get things done, which is what I did.

When you can get an allocation depends almost entirely on how big your dealer is. The more cars they sell, the more allocations they get.

Unfortunately I’ve read there have been some unexpected and unknown constraints affecting production. According to a dealer on a different forum there were only 21 open m40i allocations in the us right now.
