Lowering an XI
Hey guys, I'm receiving my car in a few days and I was thinking of lowering it, but I'm worried because of the xdrive system...Is there a reason that the 330xi is higher than the 330i, and why does the sport package not include suspension adjustment...Please tell me what you think I should do. If you recommend it, then what springs should I go with?

H & R now has a lowering kit for the xi. I think this is big news for anyone interested in lowering their xi. Also check with E90post member Getagrip. He has a lowered E46xi and has E90xi on order which he plans to lower as well. He would be a good resource for you.

The springs are out...there about $230. I am assuming the XI sits higher due to the all wheel drive system..correct? But my question is why is it not a good idea to lower an XI? I have an XI with 19's and would like to lower it. I don't know all of the technical mumbo jumbo so can anyone please elaborate?

i plan on lowering my 330xi with the HnR springs too. I think the reason for the higher springs on the xi so it will have more clearance in heavier snow conditions, not because of the actual AWD transmission. the wrx sti and evo are awd yet they can be lowered pretty low. I dont plan on driving in heavy snow and i am planning on getting aftermarket wheels so i will defintely be lowering mine.

uhaulball- I wAS just checking out Eibach site and clicked the world map (not north america) and found a part number for pro-kit springs for 325xi/330xi. I was told that Eibach NA was not intrested in getting these springs for an non-NA application. I'm gonna call Eibach myself on Monday to see what they can do.

Images of my Touring xi lowered with ACS springs. No issues, and I love the ride. These are made for the stock dampers and approved by BMW. My dealer even installed them before delivery. They are manufactured by Eibach.

bulldog--Where did you get the ACS springs? Do you know if sedan applications are available?
getagrip--I just called H&R and they said about 6-8 weeks on the sedan springs, the wagon springs sooner |

why did you guys get Xi?
my guess is for driving in snow right?...wouldn't it be better not lowered?...i mean, BMW has their reason for not letting you lower it with the sport suspension.... i beleive getting a Xi cost more than getting a regular 325/330i ......if you're trying to make it like a 325/330i.....what's the point of spending more $$$ on the xi, and more $$$ lowering it? |
