State of today

So for 2 plus years things have been pretty good through tough times. Starting slowly around January people have just started to loose their sh!t.
I do very well deescalating situations but I can’t be everywhere and handle everyone.

Am I the only one that’s seeing the day to day get harder and harder or maybe it’s just my field bc car parts, delays, new cars and all that encompasses cars are non existent.

Discuss?

Still awaiting delivery of Ford Transit ordered late Oct/21. Dealer says maybe May, probably June.

Only January?? People have been losing their shit for quite some time. No one has patience anymore and respect is out the window for most. Time for a National reboot.

Patience seems to be a lost virtue these days. Not just the last 2 years or so, but for the last decade or two.

Instant gratification is killing our country.

I have noticed this ONLINE. However I have honestly not experienced this much in my day to day life. That being said I don't really talk to anyone except my immediate family and maybe 3-4 friends. I have been on social media less and less (not that I was ever a big user) and I definitely do not engage with people on social media.

I love Japan! After traveling there that was the first time I came back disappointed in America. Japan has their own set of issues but there is still lots of respect. What amazed me is that you hardly see any trash cans but yet people don't throw trash on the ground. No talking on your phone on trains and people actually abide by that. No entitlement.

Aside from online Ive noticed it most on the roads. It's clear that when people can hide behind a monitor or a windshield, the worst in them comes out. Haven't really noticed any of the epic public meltdowns you see captured on social media. Not sure if those are happening more these days or if more people just have cameras in their pocket an an Instagram account to post it to.

I think the labour shortage and issues with supply chains are really hurting people. Not just in aquiring "stuff" but to just get anything done. Try doing or booking anything and you need to pan ahead months and months, a lot of front line workers are off with the spicy cough too so every business seems short staffed.

I have noticed an overall lack of customer service... again mostly online or when calling places. However at least here in FL I have not personally noticed a lot of staffing issues with local places we go to.

I also think many companies are using staff shortages etc as an excuse. On the way back to FL from NC we stopped at a Dunkin Donuts... the place has a line around the block. It took for fucking ever! Waaaay longer than it should have. Also they have the dining area closed so only drive through. They have signs posted everywhere about staff shortages etc. At the window I see there are 3 employees. 1 is taking orders and standing around another is just standing around and 1 is actually making the food. Meanwhile Mcdonalds right next door has served like 10x the number of cars in the same time and has the dining room open.

So did Dunkin suck because of staff shortages? Or did they just have shit training, poor pay or both?

It sucks because everyone is pulling their Karen cards. My staff is great at what they do but now EVERYONE wants to talk to the manager. They all think that I'm going to be able to get their parts for their car sooner than my staff can, or that if I know they're more important than the next customer I can magically make the guy weld their quarter panel on quicker or the paint to dry faster.....

Well of course. You're the manager. You'll crack the whip.

I think I'm growing numb to the waiting. Been waiting 3 months for second key to Cayenne. Here's the thing though... they told me a couple of weeks when I got the car. Ok no problem I waited like a month before I contacted the guy and asked about it. Oh not yet maybe a month, ok. Went to NC didn't worry about it for like 2 months, now we are 3 months in and I ask the guy again. Oh nothing sorry maybe another month... now I'm pissed off so I let him know I'm unhappy with the situation. Then magically the key shows up a week later... coincidence???

Same thing happened with the battery. Battery was fucked when I got the car. I kept being told it would be in next week and nothing. No ETA they have no idea when it's coming... ok. Get survey from Porsche in that time and I express my disappointment in them using a proprietary battery that they apparently cannot keep in stock.... next day or 2 battery magically shows up... also coincidence? My guess is they were giving the keys and batteries to all the Karens and left me high and dry as I was not whining.

Client service has gone down the sh*tter all around... that's my main observation.

Clients have been okay to deal with but neighbors have gone bonkers. We've actually dropped some people only due to this, just not worth the headache. People in general seem to be more nasty both online and in person. I have my own thoughts on why but can't air them on here.

As far as the person above saying client service has gone down the tubes need to understand companies are strained right now with both labor shortage and supply issues. Clients don't seem to grasp this or believe it so they decide to be nasty about it. Heck, I even found my self treating my normal auto shop guy like crap. I actually drove there and apologized in person for the way I treated him on the phone.

I blame dopamine burn-out. We live in a world where reward is instant. A you want it and want it now kind of world. Gone are times where people might build up to something. Like saving $20 a month to buy an awesome pair of sneakers at the end of the year. As there is no working toward something it's all on a short-fuse. Add that to a pandemic and it's been a bit of a rollercoaster. COVID-19 has fucked everybody in some way. Rich or poor. So when people don't get what they want they flip out. Quickly. Then you also have people who have a chip on their shoulder. What's the point in taking life so seriously? Nobody gets out alive anyway.
