Is it bad...
when I'll take my BMW out to go pick up food somewhere nearby or run a quick errand, but take the longest route to get there just so I can be driving my car more? Sometimes I'll drive by where I want to go and double back, or take the route with more stop lights, or drive for a few mins away from my destination and then turn around.
I've been noticing I've been doing this more with the car I just got (09 E90 335i) than my previous BMW (07 E92 328xi). Maybe it's the sport seats, or the new iDrive with Nav, or the powerful engine that just makes me want to stay in it as long as possible. And I've only had it for a week...! Is this normal? |

I always take longer routes but not with more stop lights. There are a few long winding roads leading to my house which adds about 10 more miles to the trip and I always take them.
And I just randomly leave the house sometimes and go for a few mile road trip, or go to Sheetz early in the morning just to hang with the other enthusiast. If it gets real bad you can join, LRA: Longer Routes Anonymous

It's normal. I've come home after a five hour drive and thought, "Damn, I'm almost home. Maybe I can drive around a bit before going in." I still feel this way and my car is going on three years old.

Yes, it's bad. You need to see your doctor. You probably have OCD because you have decided to take a long route because you just want to drive more in your Bimmer. Didn't you see a warning stickers on your windshield that says you might get addicted or OCD condition from taking a longer route?
Next time, be careful and be sure to take a shorter and reasonable route. Talk to your wife/ gf about your condition, I'm sure that your loving wife/gf will understand. The Energy Department and EPA encourages all drivers to take shorter route, that'll save our world's supply of oil. If you are unable to see your doctor, please see your local priest.

I take the longer route sometimes... I even did it with my E46 so it's normal for me. I try and do a long home run once or twice a week

This is perfectly normal and is actually a side effect of German Engineering. Women have been known to be immune to this particular side effect, but often get pregnant just to get German Engineering in their driveway...
